1. “Which alone
spreadeth out the heavens…”
a. Which alone spreadeth out [5186 * natah] [Strong: a primitive root;
to stretch or spread out; by implication, to bend away (including moral
deflection); used in a great variety of application (as follows):--+ afternoon,
apply, bow (down, - ing), carry aside, decline, deliver, extend, go down, be
gone, incline, intend, lay, let down, offer, outstretched, overthrown, pervert,
pitch, prolong, put away, shew, spread (out), stretch (forth, out), take
(aside), turn (aside, away), wrest, cause to yield.]
b. the heavens [8064 * shamayim] [Strong: dual of an unused singular
shameh {shaw-meh'}; from an unused root meaning to be lofty; the sky (as aloft;
the dual perhaps alluding to the visible arch in which the clouds move, as well
as to the higher ether where the celestial bodies revolve):--air, X astrologer,
heaven(-s).]
1). God alone created the heavens.
a). Isaiah 40:22 It is he that sitteth upon the circle of
the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers;
that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent
to dwell in:
2). He created them to declare His glory.
a). Psalm 19:1-6 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the
firmament sheweth his handywork.
19:2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth
knowledge.
19:3 There is no speech nor language, where their
voice is not heard.
19:4 Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to
the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,
19:5 Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his
chamber, andrejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.
19:6 His going forth is from the end of the heaven,
and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat
thereof.
3). He has named everyone of them.
a). Psalm 147:4 He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all
by their names.
2. “…and treadeth
upon the waves of the sea.”
a. and treadeth [1869 * darak] [Strong: a primitive root; to tread; by
implication, to walk; also to string a bow (by treading on it in
bending):--archer, bend, come, draw, go (over), guide, lead (forth), thresh,
tread (down), walk.]
b. upon the waves [1116 * bamah] [Strong: from an unused root (meaning
to be high); an elevation:--height, high place, wave.]
c. of the sea [3220 * yam]
[Strong: from an unused root meaning to roar; a sea (as breaking in noisy surf)
or large body of water; specifically (with the article), the Mediterranean Sea;
sometimes a large river, or an artifical basin; locally, the west, or (rarely)
the south:--sea (X -faring man, (-shore)), south, west (-ern, side, -ward).]
1). David writes that the LORD sits upon the flood.
a). Psalm 29:10 The LORD sitteth upon the flood; yea, the LORD sitteth
King for ever.
2). Jesus walked on water.
a). Matthew 14:23-25 And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went
up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there
alone.
14:24 But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves:
for the wind was contrary.
14:25 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them,
walking on the sea.
