7:4
Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are
become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to
another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth
fruit unto God.
a. NLT: So, my
dear brothers and sisters, this is the point: You died to the power of the law
when you died with Christ. And now you are united with the one who was raised
from the dead. As a result, we can produce a harvest of good deeds for God.
b. NIV: So, my
brothers and sisters, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that
you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that
we might bear fruit for God.

my brethren, ye also were made dead to the law through the body of the Christ,

1). When Christ died
Israel’s husband died, therefore covenentally they were free from the law, and
really under obligation to receive their Messiah. Covenentally the same husband
that died, rose from the dead.
a). Jeremiah 3:14, 20 Turn, O backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion:
3:20 Surely as a wife treacherously departeth from her husband, so have ye dealt treacherously with me, O house of Israel, saith the LORD.
2). Paul echoes this same thought in 1 Corinthians.
a). 1 Corinthians 7:39 The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.
