each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.
c. YLT: so, then,
each of us concerning himself shall give reckoning to God;
d. Amplified Bible

reference to judgment] to God.
e. Worrell
Translation: So, then, each one of us shall give account concerning himself to
God.
1. “So then every one of us shall
give account of himself to God.”
a. So [3767 * oun]
[Strong: apparently a primary word; (adverbially) certainly, or
(conjunctionally) accordingly:--and (so, truly), but, now (then), so (likewise
then), then, therefore, verily, wherefore.]
b. then [686 *
ara] [Strong: probably from 142 (through the idea of drawing a conclusion); a
particle denoting an inference more or less decisive (as follows):--haply,
(what) manner (of man), no doubt, perhaps, so be, then, therefore, truly,
wherefore. Often used in connection with other particles, especially 1065 or
3767 (after) or 1487 (before).]
c. every one [1538
* hekastos] [Strong: as if a superlative of hekas (afar); each or every:--any,
both, each (one), every (man, one, woman), particularly.]
d. of us [2257 *
hemon] [Strong: genitive case plural of 1473; of (or from) us:--our (company),
us, we.]
e. shall give
[1325 * didomi] [Strong: a prolonged form of a primary verb (which is used as
an alternative in most of the tenses); to give (used in a very wide
application, properly, or by implication, literally or figuratively; greatly
modified by the connection):--adventure, bestow, bring forth, commit, deliver
(up), give, grant, hinder, make, minister, number, offer, have power, put,
receive, set, shew, smite (+ with the hand), strike (+ with the palm of the
hand), suffer, take, utter, yield.]
f. account [3056 *
logos] [Strong: from 3004; something said (including the thought); by
implication, a topic (subject of discourse), also reasoning (the mental
faculty) or motive; by extension, a computation; specially, (with the article
in John) the Divine Expression (i.e. Christ):--account, cause, communication, X
concerning, doctrine, fame, X have to do, intent, matter, mouth, preaching,
question, reason, + reckon, remove, say(-ing), shew, X speaker, speech, talk,
thing, + none of these things move me, tidings, treatise, utterance, word,
work.]
g. of [4012 * peri]
[Strong: from the base of 4008; properly, through (all over), i.e. around;
figuratively with respect to; used in various applications, of place, cause or
time (with the genitive case denoting the subject or occasion or superlative
point; with the accusative case the locality, circuit, matter, circumstance or
general period):--(there-)about, above, against, at, on behalf of, X and his
company, which concern, (as) concerning, for, X how it will go with, ((there-,
where-)) of, on, over, pertaining (to), for sake, X (e-)state, (as) touching,
(where-)by (in), with. In comparative, it retains substantially the same
meaning of circuit (around), excess (beyond), or completeness (through).]
h. of himself [1438
* heautou] [Strong: from a reflexive pronoun otherwise obsolete and the
genitive case (dative case or accusative case) of 846; him- (her-, it-, them-,
also (in conjunction with the personal pronoun of the other persons) my-, thy-,
our-, your-) self (selves), etc.:--alone, her (own, -self), (he) himself, his
(own), itself, one (to) another, our (thine) own(-selves), + that she had,
their (own, own selves), (of) them(-selves), they, thyself, you, your (own, own
conceits, own selves, -selves).]
i. to God [2316 *
theos] [Strong: of uncertain affinity; a deity, especially (with 3588) the
supreme Divinity; figuratively, a magistrate; by Hebraism, very:--X exceeding,
God, god(-ly, -ward).]
1). The
account we give will be at the Judgment Seat of Christ mentioned in Romans
14:10-12 and 2 Corinthians 5:9, 10. Some scholars believe this Judgment takes
place between the rapture and the Second Coming. The basis of this Judgment is
our works. The following is what will be judged. What we will be judged for is
revealed in the following passages.
a). Our
doctrines
(1) 2
Timothy 2:14, 15 Of these things put them in remembrance,
charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to
no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.
2:15 Study
to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,
rightly dividing the word of truth.
(2) 2 John
7-11 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus
Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.
1:8 Look to
yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we
receive a full reward.
1:9
Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not
God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the
Son.
1:10 If
there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house,
neither bid him God speed:
1:11 For he
that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.
(3) 2
Timothy 3:15-17 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures,
which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in
Christ Jesus.
3:16 All
scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable
for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
3:17 That
the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
b). Our
conduct to others.
(1) Matthew
18:23-35
(2) Romans
14:7-14 For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself.
14:8 For
whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the
Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's.
14:9 For to
this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of
the dead and living.
14:10 But
why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother?
for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
14:11 For it
is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to
me, and every tongue shall confess to God.
14:12 So
then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.
14:13 Let us
not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man
put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's
way.
14:14 I
know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there isnothing
unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to
him it is unclean.
(3)
Colossians 3:22-25 Servants, obey in all things your masters
according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness
of heart, fearing God:
3:23 And
whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto
men;
3:24 Knowing
that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve
the Lord Christ.
3:25 But he
that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is
no respect of persons.
(4)
Ephesians 5:8-14 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light
in the Lord: walk as children of light:
5:9 (For the
fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and
truth;)
5:10 Proving
what is acceptable unto the Lord.
5:11 And
have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather
reprove them.
5:12 For it
is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.
5:13 But all
things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth
make manifest is light.
5:14
Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and
Christ shall give thee light.
c). Our
words
(1) Matthew 12:31-37 Wherefore I say unto you,
All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the
blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be
forgiven unto men.
12:32 And
whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but
whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him,
neither in this world, neither in the world to come.
12:33 Either
make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his
fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.
12:34 O
generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the
abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
12:35 A good
man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an
evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.
12:36 But I
say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give
account thereof in the day of judgment.
12:37 For by
thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
d). Things
that affect us personally and God
(1) Romans
2:21-24 Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou
that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal?
2:22 Thou
that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou
that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege?
2:23 Thou
that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonourest thou
God?
2:24 For the
name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written.
