1 Chronicles 10:8

And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen in mount Gilboa.

a. NLT: The next day, when the Philistines went out to strip the dead, they found the bodies of Saul and his sons on Mount Gilboa.

b. NIV: The next day, when the Philistines came to strip the dead, they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.

1). A common characteristic after a battle was that the victor plundered the bodies of the fallen, and in some cases, dismembering them.

1). The discovery of the remains of Saul and his sons was a prize.

2). Jamieson/Fausset/Brown commentary: “On discovering the corpses of the slaughtered princes on the battlefield, the enemy reserved them for special indignities.”
