1). The context of these events is the completion of the Temple and the placing of all the furniture and everything that was made for the Temple. The priests had just placed the ark in its place and just exited the Holy place.

a). 1 Kings 8:1-11 Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel and all the heads of the tribes, the chiefs of the fathers’ houses of the Israelites, before the king in Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord out of Zion, the City of David.
8:2 All the men of Israel assembled themselves before King Solomon at the feast in the seventh month, Ethanim.
8:3 All the elders of Israel came, and the priests took up the ark.
8:4 And they brought up the ark of the Lord, the Tent of Meeting, and all the holy vessels that were in the tent; the priests and the Levites brought them up.
8:5 King Solomon and all the congregation of Israel who had assembled before him were with him before the ark, sacrificing sheep and oxen, so many that they could not be reported or counted.
8:6 And the priests brought the ark of the covenant of the Lord to its place in the Holy of Holies of the house, under the wings of the cherubim.
8:7 For the cherubim spread forth their two wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubim covered the ark and its poles.
8:8 The poles were so long that the ends of them were seen from the Holy Place before the Holy of Holies, but they were not seen outside; they are there to this day.
8:9 There was nothing in the ark except the two tables of stone which Moses put there at Horeb, where the Lord made a covenant with the Israelites when they came out of the land of Egypt.
8:10 When the priests had come out of the Holy Place, the cloud filled the Lord’s house,
8:11 So the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord had filled the Lord’s house.

2. “…for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of the LORD.”

a. the glory [3519 * kabowd kaw-bode' rarely kabod {kaw-bode'}; from 3513; properly, weight, but only figuratively in a good sense, splendor or copiousness:--glorious(-ly), glory, honour(-able).

b. of the LORD [3068 * Yhovah] [Strong: from 1961; (the) self-Existent or Eternal; Jehovah, Jewish national name of God:--Jehovah, the Lord.]

c. had filled [4390 * male'; or malae] [Strong: a primitive root, to fill or (intransitively) be full of, in a wide application (literally and figuratively):--accomplish, confirm, + consecrate, be at an end, be expired, be fenced, fill, fulfil, (be, become, X draw, give in, go) full(-ly, -ly set, tale), (over-)flow, fulness, furnish, gather (selves, together), presume, replenish, satisfy, set, space, take a (hand-)full, + have wholly.]

d. the house [1004 * bayith] [Strong: probably from 1129 abbreviated; a house (in the greatest variation of applications, especially family, etc.):--court, daughter, door, + dungeon, family, + forth of, X great as would contain, hangings, home(born), (winter)house(-hold), inside(-ward), palace, place, + prison, + steward, + tablet, temple, web, + within(-out).]

e. of the LORD [3068 * Yhovah] [Strong: from 1961; (the) self-Existent or Eternal; Jehovah, Jewish national name of God:--Jehovah, the Lord.]

1). Institute Of Creation Research Daily Devotional 9/26/11 This remarkable glory cloud filling Solomon's Temple at its dedication had also been present when the tabernacle in the wilderness was dedicated. At that time, Moses recorded how "a cloud covered the tent of the congregation…and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle." Furthermore, this "cloud of the LORD was upon the tabernacle by day, and fire was on it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys" (Exodus 40: 34, 35, 38). There could be no doubt as to His presence.  It is well known that this cloud of divine glory was called the Shekinah. Although this actual word never occurs in the Bible itself, it is closely related to the Hebrew words for "dwell" (shakan) and "tabernacle" (mishkan).  The significant truth here, of course, is not the name, but the fact. The glory cloud was removed when Israel became apostate. "And the glory of the Lord went up from the midst of the city" (Ezekiel 11:23). When God returned to earth in the person of His Son, "the Word was made flesh, and |tabernacled| among us." Then, once again, those who had eyes to see "beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father" (John 1:14). By His Spirit, He now even lives in the human bodies of those who receive Him, and "Christ in you" becomes our own "hope of glory" (Colossians 1:27). Then, as we live in His Word, "we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord" (2 Corinthians 3:18). HMM

2). Comparative passage:

a). 2 Chronicles 5:1-14 Thus all the work that Solomon did for the house of the Lord was finished. He brought in all the things that David his father had dedicated, and the silver, the gold, and all the vessels he put in the treasuries of the house of God.
5:2 Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel and all the heads of the tribes, the chiefs of the fathers’ houses of the Israelites, to Jerusalem to bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord out of the City of David, which is Zion.
5:3 All the men of Israel gathered to the king at the feast in the seventh month.
5:4 And all the elders of Israel came, and the Levites took up the ark.
5:5 And the priests and Levites brought up the ark, the Tent of Meeting, and all the holy vessels that were in the Tent.
5:6 Also King Solomon and all the assembly of Israel who were gathered to him before the ark sacrificed sheep and oxen so numerous that they could not be counted or reported.
5:7 And the priests brought the ark of the covenant of the Lord to its place, to the sanctuary of the house, into the Holy of Holies, under the wings of the cherubim;
5:8 For the cherubim spread out their wings over the place of the ark, making a covering above the ark and its poles.
5:9 And they drew out the poles of the ark, so that the ends of the poles protruding from the ark were visible from the front of the Holy of Holies, but were not visible from without. It is there to this day.
5:10 There was nothing in the ark except the two tables [the Ten Commandments] which Moses put in it at Mount Horeb, when the Lord made a covenant with the Israelites when they came out of Egypt.
5:11 And when the priests had come out of the Holy Place—for all the priests present had sanctified themselves, separating themselves from everything that defiles, without regard to their divisions;
5:12 And all the Levites who were singers—all of those of Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun, with their sons and kinsmen, arrayed in fine linen, having cymbals, harps, and lyres—stood at the east end of the altar, and with them 120 priests blowing trumpets;
5:13 And when the trumpeters and singers were joined in unison, making one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord, and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and other instruments for song and praised the Lord, saying, For He is good, for His mercy and loving-kindness endure forever, then the house of the Lord was filled with a cloud,
5:14 So that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the house of God.
