1 Kings 11:1
But
king Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh,
women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites:

women from Moab, Ammon, Edom, Sidon, and from among the Hittites.

1). In
the instructions that God gave to Moses, the king whoever he may be was not to
have many wives.
a). Deuteronomy 17:17 Neither shall he multiply
wives to himself, that his heart turn not away: neither shall he greatly
multiply to himself silver and gold.
2). Obviously
Solomon did not obey this commandment, and it is evident from the last verses
in the passage that God had told Solomon about this.

Kings 11:9, 10 And the Lord was angry with Solomon, because his heart was
turned from the Lord God of Israel, which had appeared unto him twice,
And had
commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods:
but he kept not that which the Lord commanded.
3). As
far as I know Nehemiah is the only Jewish leader recorded in Scripture who
chastises Solomon for his fornication, and it is 5 centuries later.

13:23-26 In those days also saw I Jews that had married wives of Ashdod, of
Ammon, and of Moab:
13:24 And
their children spake half in the speech of Ashdod, and could not speak in the
Jews' language, but according to the language of each people.
13:25 And
I contended with them, and cursed them, and smote certain of them, and plucked
off their hair, and made them swear by God, saying, Ye shall not give your
daughters unto their sons, nor take their daughters unto your sons, or for
yourselves.
13:26 Did
not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? yet among many nations was
there no king like him, who was beloved of his God, and God made him king over
all Israel: nevertheless even him did outlandish women cause to sin.
4). It
must be said that although David also broke the commandment in Deuteronomy
concerning many wives (He had at least 8 that are named but there were more
wives and concubines), they did not lead his heart astray from serving God.
Solomon did.
