1 Corinthians 2:6
Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:

1). The wisdom of this world is foolishness with God, because the world by its wisdom knows not God. It does not recognize him.
a). 1 Corinthians 2:18-21 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
2:19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.
2:20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
2:21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
2). The canal minds thinking is enmity or an enemy of God.
a). Romans 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
3. “…nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:”

1). The princes of this world are angelic powers, good and bad.
a). Daniel 10:20, 21Then said he, Knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee? and now will I return to fight with the prince of Persia: and when I am gone forth, lo, the prince of Grecia shall come.
10:21 But I will shew thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth: and there is none that holdeth with me in these things, but Michael your prince.
2). It declares here that the wisdom of the princes of this world, the bad ones, come to nought. The church has wisdom that was hidden from all the angelic princes, that particular wisdom was designed by God to be shown to the princes through the church.
a). Ephesians 3:9, 10 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:
To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,
3). As we shall see later in this chapter, 1 Corinthians 2, the wisdom included crucifying Christ Jesus.

But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:
a. NLT: No, the wisdom we speak of is the mystery of God—his plan that was previously hidden, even though he made it for our ultimate glory before the world began.
b. NIV: No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began.
c. YLT: but we speak the hidden wisdom of God in a secret, that God foreordained before the ages to our glory,
d. Amplified Bible Classic: But rather what we are setting forth is a wisdom of God once hidden [from the human understanding] and now revealed to us by God—[that wisdom] which God devised and decreed before the ages for our glorification [to lift us into the glory of His presence].

1). In these definitions I can see the New Covenant that was hidden to the people and prophets of the Old Covenant.

If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:
3:2 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words,

3:4 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;

2. “…which God ordained before the world unto our glory…”

1). This helps reveal that the plan of redemption was planned out before the creation of the earth.
a). 1 Peter 1:18-20 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
1:19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
1:20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
2). Some commentators and references notes in my Bibles point to the Second Coming of Christ in regard to this part of the verse, in particular the passing out of rewards to the faithful. While I definitely believe that is true, I also believe that it is speaking of us as believers receiving the mysteries of the wisdom of God, the hidden wisdom through the revelation knowledge of the Spirit of God and incorporating it into our obedient lives in order to grow spiritually, from faith to faith and glory to glory now in this life.
a). Romans 1:16, 17 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
b). 1 Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
3). The Scripture is speaking here not only of the New Covenant and all the wisdom included in the redemption of man. It is also speaking how that God created the universe in light of that redemption. It all reflects back to Christ Jesus.
1 Corinthians 2:8
Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
a. NLT: But the rulers of this world have not understood it; if they had, they would not have crucified our glorious Lord.
b. NIV: None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

1). We must remember that the plan of redemption that included that Jesus would die is older than the earth. The quoting of 1 Peter 1:18-20 in the previous verse study confirms it. I personally believe it was planned out even before the angels were created. Whether that is true or not, it is at least older than the earth. Peter on the Day of Pentecost referred to it as “the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God.”
a). Acts 2:23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:
2). Although it was man who carried out the actual crime, it was wicked spirits who worked behind the veil inside man to motivate the participants.
a). John 13:2 And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him;
b). Ephesians 2:2, 3 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
2:3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
3). This verse shows that the devil was completely outsmarted by God.
1 Corinthians 2:9
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
a. NLT: That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard,
and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.

1). The reason they had not entered into the heart of man is of course these were the things of God hid from the foundation of the world. Paul is referring to the wisdom of the New Covenant. and only God knew the things of God, which is stated in verse 11.

I can remember over 30 years ago [today 4/19/10], Chuck Wade ministering at WPC and saying regarding 1 Corinthians 2:9 that too many people stop after reading verse nine and say how wonderful heaven is going to be, but we need to keep reading. He has revealed them to us by His Spirit! He is referring to heaven but he is also referring to the New Covenant as is proven in the next passage.
3). 1 Peter 1:10-12 Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:
1:11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.
1:12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.
a). In 1 Peter 1:11 Peter mentions “the sufferings of Christ and the glory that should follow”. The “glory that should follow” is referring to both the New Covenant and also the Millennial Kingdom.
b). In verse 12 Peter referred to “the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven;”
c). This is the New Covenant.

It is actually a picture of something that is veiled or hidden at the moment when its veil or covering is suddenly removed. As a result, what was hidden for so long now comes into plain view. And God does all of this by His Spirit.

1). There are exceptions but generally speaking, to really discern spiritual things, a person shast to be born again. God’s Spirit has to be the Person telling us.
1 Corinthians 2:13
Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
a. NLT: When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from human wisdom. Instead, we speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths.

Paul declared the testimony of God not in man’s wisdom, but in the demonstration of the Spirit.

1). Costello: this word has a variety of definitions, but let us be basic and clear, spiritual means those things pertaining to the spirit, in particular, spiritual truth. In particular spiritual truth found in verses of Scripture.
g. [with] spiritual [Strong: 5152. pneumatikos pnyoo-mat-ik-os' from 4151; non-carnal, i.e. (humanly) ethereal (as opposed to gross), or (daemoniacally) a spirit (concretely), or (divinely) supernatural, regenerate, religious:--spiritual.]
1). How does the Holy Ghost teach? He combines and compares spiritual truths, combining spiritual similarities. Notice what Jesus said about the manner in which the Holy Ghost teaches.
a). John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
b). Jesus said that the Holy Ghost will teach by bringing “to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” This is of course not just speaking of Matthew, Mark Luke & John, it is speaking of the whole New Covenant, and of the whole Bible.
b). Before the Holy Ghost can bring it to our remembrance it must be in our consciousness first, which means we must read or hear it first. As we meditate and memorize God’s word the Holy Ghost will inject Scriptures into the flow of thought, thus, joining together and combining words, verses and passages resulting in revelation knowledge.
2). Jesus also said the following in regard to what the Holy Ghost will teach. As you read the words of what Jesus said I want you to think of the New Covenant.
a). John 16:12-15 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
16:14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
16:15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
3). The Holy Ghost teaches by bringing to our remembrance Scriptures we had learned in the past, the lines and precept we had learned.
a). Isaiah 28:9, 10 Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.
28:10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:
1 Corinthians 2:14
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
a. NLT: But people who aren’t spiritual[fn] can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means.
b. NIV: The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.
c. YLT: The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.
d. Amplified Bible Classic: But the natural, nonspiritual man does not accept or welcome or admit into his heart the gifts and teachings and revelations of the Spirit of God, for they are folly (meaningless nonsense) to him; and he is incapable of knowing them [of progressively recognizing, understanding, and becoming better acquainted with them] because they are spiritually discerned and estimated and appreciated.

1). Natural man, individuals who have not been born again, cannot receice or accept or understand the things of God. Natural man only receives from his 5 physical senses: touch, smell, see, hear and taste and he is completely governed by them.
2. “…for they are foolishness unto him…”

1). This explains the reaction of unregenerate man when he is presented with spiritual truths. He can’t help himself
a). 1 Corinthians 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
2). When Christians reject the clear revelation of the Scripture it is because there is rebellion in their hearts.
