1). Robert A. Tourville, The Acts of the Apostles: Paul did the same here as in the synagogues. [“he reasoned”] is the same word used in Acts 17:2, 17; Acts18:4, 19; Acts 19:8, 9. The reasoning followed three area. First, “rightousness,” which is a requirement of the Law, but could not be attained by obedience to the Law. Righteousness could only come by Jesus the Messiah [Romans 3:21, 22]. Paul must have reasoned in a similar was he does in Galatians and Romans. Second, “self-control” (egkrateias Strong # 1466) occurs here and twice more in the new testament (Galatians 5:23; 2 Peter 1:6). It is also rendered “temperance”. It has to do with self-discipline or mastering oneself in regard to desires and sensual appetites…Third, Paul discussed “judgment to come, he pointed out that judgment was inevitable for every person. The Law could not mean much unless there be a time to face the penalty of it.
2). Though Scripture does not say that Felix got saved, his initial response was that he trembled while hearing the gospel. During the next two years Paul had often times to minister to Felix. The word either hardened his heart or softened it.
