Colossians 1:17
Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
a. NLT: For these rules are only
shadows of the reality yet to come. And Christ himself is that reality.
b. NIV: These are a shadow of the
things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.

coming things, and the body is of the Christ;

1. “Which are a shadow of things to come…”
a. which [3739 * hos including
feminine he, and neuter ho] [Strong: probably a primary word (or
perhaps a form of the article 3588); the relatively (sometimes demonstrative)

which, who(-m, -se), etc.]

to intend, i.e. be about to be, do, or suffer something (of persons or things,
especially events; in the sense of purpose, duty, necessity, probability,

things, + which was for) to come, intend, was to (be), mean, mind, be at the
point, (be) ready, + return, shall (begin), (which, that) should (after,
afterwards, hereafter) tarry, which was for, will, would, be yet.]
1). There is no doubt that the
feasts, the priesthood, the tabernacle and many other things written in the Old
Testament were types and foreshadows of Christ.
a). Hebrews 10:1 For the law having
a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can
never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make
the comers thereunto perfect.
2). But in light of the fact that
some of the Old Testament practices are going to be reinstituted after Christ
returns and sets up His kingdom, could it be that there are still some things in
those shadows that are to come? I checked 11 different translations and only
one, the NIV, used the wording “a shadow of the things that WERE to come”. All the
other translations use wording in the present or future tense.
2. “…but the body is of Christ.”

but, moreover, now (often unexpressed in English).]
b. the body [4983 * soma] [Strong:
from 4982; the body (as a sound whole), used in a very wide application,
literally or figuratively:--bodily, body, slave.]
c. is of Christ [5547 * Christos]
[Strong: from 5548; anointed, i.e. the Messiah, an epithet of Jesus:--Christ.]
1). The body casting the shadow is
Christ Jesus and all that he accomplished in his life, death and resurrection.
