Deuteronomy 18:12

Deuteronomy 18:12

For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

a. NLT: Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD. It is because the other nations have done these detestable things that the LORD your God will drive them out ahead of you.

b. NIV: Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD; because of these same detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you.

c. YLT: 'For the abomination of Jehovah is every one doing these, and because of these abominations is Jehovah thy God dispossessing them from thy presence.

d. Amplified Bible:  For everyone who does these things is utterly repulsive to the Lord; and because of these detestable practices the Lord your God is driving them out before you.

e. Septuagint: For every one that does these things is an abomination to the Lord thy God; for because of these abominations the Lord will destroy them from before thy face. 

f. Stone Edition Chumash: For anyone who does these is an abomination of HASHEM, and because of these abominations HASHEM, your God, banishes [the nations] from before you.

1. “For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD…”

b. are an abomination [8441 * tow`ebah or tonebah] [Strong: feminine active participle of 8581; properly, something disgusting (morally), i.e. (as noun) an abhorrence; especially idolatry or (concretely) an idol:-- abominable (custom, thing), abomination.]

c. the LORD [3068 * Yhovah] [Strong: from 1961; (the) self-Existent or Eternal; Jehovah, Jewish national name of God:--Jehovah, the Lord.]

2. “…and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.”

a. and because [1558 * galal] [Strong: from 1556; a circumstance (as rolled around); only used adverbially, on account of:--because of, for (sake).]
b. of these abominations [8441 * tow`ebah or tonebah] [Strong: feminine active participle of 8581; properly, something disgusting (morally), i.e. (as noun) an abhorrence; especially idolatry or (concretely) an idol:-- abominable (custom, thing), abomination.]

c. the LORD [3068 * Yhovah] [Strong: from 1961; (the) self-Existent or Eternal; Jehovah, Jewish national name of God:--Jehovah, the Lord.]

d. thy God [430 * 'elohiym] [Strong: plural of 433; gods in the ordinary sense; but specifically used (in the plural thus, especially with the article) of the supreme God; occasionally applied by way of deference to magistrates; and sometimes as a superlative:--angels, X exceeding, God (gods)(-dess, -ly), X (very) great, judges, X mighty.]

e. doth drive them out [3423 * yarash or yaresh] [Strong: a primitive root; to occupy (by driving out previous tenants, and possessing in their place); by implication, to seize, to rob, to inherit; also to expel, to impoverish, to ruin:--cast out, consume, destroy, disinherit, dispossess, drive(-ing) out, enjoy, expel, X without fail, (give to, leave for) inherit(-ance, -or) + magistrate, be (make) poor, come to poverty, (give to, make to) possess, get (have) in (take) possession, seize upon, succeed, X utterly.]
