Psalm 16:7

I will bless the LORD, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.

1. “I will bless the LORD…”

a. I will bless [Strong: 1288 bârak, baw-rak'; a primitive root; to kneel; by implication to bless God (as an act of adoration), and (vice-versa) man (as a benefit); also (by euphemism) to curse (God or the king, as treason):—× abundantly, × altogether, × at all, blaspheme, bless, congratulate, curse, × greatly, × indeed, kneel (down), praise, salute, × still, thank.]

2. “…who hath given me counsel…”

b. hath given me] counsel [Strong: 3289 yâʻats, yaw-ats'; a primitive root; to advise; reflexively, to deliberate or resolve:—advertise, take advise, advise (well), consult, (give, take) counsel(-lor), determine, devise, guide, purpose.]

1). How does the Lord give us counsel? It is through His word.

a). Psalm 119:97, 98 O how Love I thy law! It is my meditation all the day.

119:98 Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me.

3. “…my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.”

a. [my] reins [Strong: 3629 kilyâh, kil-yaw'; feminine of H3627 (only in the plural); a kidney (as an essential organ); figuratively, the mind (as the interior self):—kidneys, reins.]

b. also [Strong: 637 ʼaph, af; a primitive particle; meaning accession (used as an adverb or conjunction); also or yea; adversatively though:—also, + although, and (furthermore, yet), but, even, + how much less (more, rather than), moreover, with, yea.]

c. instruct[me] [Strong: 3256 yâçar, yaw-sar'; a primitive root; to chastise, literally (with blows) or figuratively (with words); hence, to instruct:—bind, chasten, chastise, correct, instruct, punish, reform, reprove, sore, teach.]

1). The Lord will also use my inner man, my thought processes to teach me by bringing things to my remembrance by the Holy Spirit.

a).  John 14:25, 26 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.

14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said.

 

b). John 16:12-15 I have many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

16:14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

16:15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shew it unto you.
