2 Corinthians 3:10

For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth.

a. NLT: In fact, that first glory was not glorious at all compared with the overwhelming glory of the new way.

b. NIV: For what was glorious has no glory now in comparison with the surpassing glory.

c. YLT: For also even that which hath been glorious, hath not been glorious -- in this respect, because of the superior glory;

d. Amplified Bible Classic: Indeed, in view of this fact, what once had splendor [the glory of the Law in the face of Moses] has come to have no splendor at all, because of the overwhelming glory that exceeds and excels it [the glory of the Gospel in the face of Jesus Christ].

e. Worrell Translation: For even that which has been made glorious has not been made glorious in this respect, on account of the surpassing glory.

f. Wuest Translation: For even that which has been made glorious [the ministration of death] has not [really] been made glorious in this respect, namely, on account of the glory [of the ministration of righteousness], which glory superabounds.

1. “For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect…”

a. For [Strong: 1063. gar gar a primary particle; properly, assigning a reason (used in argument, explanation or intensification; often with other particles):--and, as, because (that), but, even, for, indeed, no doubt, seeing, then, therefore, verily, what, why, yet.]

d. [which was made] glorious [Strong: 1392. doxazo dox-ad'-zo from 1391; to render (or esteem) glorious (in a wide application):--(make) glorify(-ious), full of (have) glory, honour, magnify.]

e. had no [Strong: 3761. oude oo-deh' from 3756 and 1161; not however, i.e. neither, nor, not even:--neither (indeed), never, no (more, nor, not), nor (yet), (also, even, then) not (even, so much as), + nothing, so much as.]

f. glory [Strong: 1392. doxazo dox-ad'-zo from 1391; to render (or esteem) glorious (in a wide application):--(make) glorify(-ious), full of (have) glory, honour, magnify.]

i. respect [Strong: 3313. meros mer'-os from an obsolete but more primary form of meiromai (to get as a section or allotment); a division or share (literally or figuratively, in a wide application):--behalf, course, coast, craft, particular (+ -ly), part (+ -ly), piece, portion, respect, side, some sort(-what).]

2. “…by reason of the glory that excelleth.”

a. by reason [Strong: 1752. heneka hen'-ek-ah or heneken hen'-ek-en or heineken hi'-nek-en of uncertain affinity; on account of:--because, for (cause, sake), (where-)fore, by reason of, that.]

b. of the [Strong: 3588. ho ho, including the feminine he hay, and the neuter to to in all their inflections; the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom):--the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc.]

c. glory [Strong: 1391. doxa dox'-ah from the base of 1380; glory (as very apparent), in a wide application (literal or figurative, objective or subjective):--dignity, glory(-ious), honour, praise, worship.]

d. that excelleth [Strong: 5235. huperballo hoop-er-bal'-lo from 5228 and 906; to throw beyod the usual mark, i.e. (figuratively) to surpass (only active participle supereminent):--exceeding, excel, pass.]

1). The glory of the Old Covenant eye-popping as it was, compared to the glory of the New Covenant is no glory at all. Praise God, what a statement, but it is true.
