Psalm 24:6

Psalm 24:6

This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah.

a. ASV: This is the generation of them that seek after him, That seek thy face, even Jacob.

b. YLT: This is a generation of those seeking Him. Seeking Thy face, O Jacob! Selah.

c. Amplified Bible Classic: This is the generation [description] of those who seek Him [who inquire of and for Him and of necessity require Him], who seek Your face, [O God of] Jacob. Selah [pause, and think of that]!

d. Septuagint [Psalm 24:6 in our Bible is Psalm 23:6 in the Septuagint]: This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek the face of the God of Jacob. Pause.

1. “This is the generation of them that seek him…”

a. This [is] [Strong: 2088 zeh zeh a primitive word; the masculine demonstrative pronoun, this or that:--he, X hence, X here, it(-self), X now, X of him, the one...the other, X than the other, (X out of) the (self) same, such (a one) that, these, this (hath, man), on this side...on that side, X thus, very, which.]

b. [the] generation [Strong: 1755 dôwr, dore; or (shortened) דֹּר dôr; from H1752; properly, a revolution of time, i.e. an age or generation; also a dwelling:—age, × evermore, generation, (n-) ever, posterity.]

c. [of them that] seek [him] [Strong: 1875 dârash, daw-rash'; a primitive root; properly, to tread or frequent; usually to follow (for pursuit or search); by implication, to seek or ask; specifically to worship:—ask, × at all, care for, × diligently, inquire, make inquisition, (necro-) mancer, question, require, search, seek (for, out), × surely.]

1). The generation that seeks Him presently are those who have been regenerated through the born again experience.

a). Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

(1) regeneration [3824 * paliggenesia; palin-again; genesis-generation] [Zodhiates: Regeneration, restoration, renovation, rebirth.] [Strong: (spiritual) rebirth (the state or the act), i.e. (figuratively) spiritual renovation; specially, Messianic restoration:--regeneration.]

2). This is the new birth, the born again experience Jesus was referring to when he was speaking with Nicodemus in John 3.

a). John 3:3-8 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

3:4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?

3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

3:7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

3:8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is everyone that is born of the Spirit.

2). When we become “born again” we are “in Christ” and our spirit is recreated by the Holy Ghost.

a). 2 Corinthians 5:17, 18 Therefore if any man be in Christ he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

5:18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

a). The Amplified translation renders this “a new creature altogether, a new creation…” This is the “washing of regeneration”, the new birth, being born again.

2. “...that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah.}
