Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:

1. “Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them…”
a. 1). The “they” of course is unregenerate man, the world around us.
2. “…to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:”
a. [to the] same [Strong: 846. autos ow-tos' from the particle au (perhaps akin to the base of 109 through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative 1438) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons:--her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which.]
b. excess [Strong: 401. anachusis an-akh'-oo-sis from a comparative of 303 and cheo (to pour); properly, effusion, i.e. (figuratively) license:--excess.] [Thayer; an overflowing, a pouring out, metaphorically, the excess (flood) of riot in which a dissolute life pours itself forth.]
b. 1). This word literally means unsaved [asotia; a-negative; sozo-to save]; It is to behave the opposite of those who are saved. In light of that i want to list the terms that encompass the terms “saved” and “salvation”.
a). saved [Strong: 4982 sozo sode'-zo from a primary sos (contraction for obsolete saos, "safe"); to save, i.e. deliver or protect (literally or figuratively):--heal, preserve, save (self), do well, be (make) whole.] [Thayer: to save, to keep safe and sound, to rescue from danger or destruction; to make well, heal, restore to health: to bring safe forth from to make one a partaker of the salvation by Christ.] [Zodhiates: to save, deliver, make whole, preserve safe from danger, loss, destruction…Sozo occurs fifty-four times in the Gospels [fifty-six in the KJV]. Of the instances where sozo is used, fourteen relate to deliverance from disease or demon possession; in twenty instances, the inference is to the rescue of physical life from some impending peril or instant death; the remaining twenty times, the reference is to spiritual salvation.]
b). C. I. Scofield Notes under Romans 1:16 Salvation: “The Hebrew and Greek words for salvation imply the ideas of deliverance, safety, preservation, healing, and soundness. Salvation is the great inclusive word of the Gospel, gathering into itself all the redemptive acts and processes: as justification, redemption, grace, propitiation, imputation, forgiveness, sanctification, and glorification.”

c. speaking evil [of you] [Strong: 987 987. blasphemeo blas-fay-meh'-o from 989; to vilify; specially, to speak impiously:--(speak) blaspheme(-er, -mously, -my), defame, rail on, revile, speak evil.] [Thayer: to speak reproachfully, rail at, revile, calumniate, blaspheme, to be evil spoken of, reviled, railed at.]
1). Because the believer will not engage in the same behavior as the unsaved, the world will speak evil of you. The Greek word for “riot” literally means “unsaved”. Here, the Scripture is telling us not to behave as the unsaved.
