1. “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him…”

a. [So] God [Strong: 430 'elohiym el-o-heem' plural of 433; gods in the ordinary sense; but specifically used (in the plural thus, especially with the article) of the supreme God; occasionally applied by way of deference to magistrates; and sometimes as a superlative:--angels, X exceeding, God (gods)(-dess, -ly), X (very) great, judges, X mighty.]

b. created [Strong: 1254 bara' baw-raw' a primitive root; (absolutely) to create; (qualified) to cut down (a wood), select, feed (as formative processes):-- choose, create (creator), cut down, dispatch, do, make (fat).]

c. [Strong: 853 'eth ayth apparent contracted from 226 in the demonstrative sense of entity; properly, self (but generally used to point out more definitely the object of a verb or preposition, even or namely):--(as such unrepresented in English).]

d. man [Strong: 120 'adam aw-dawm' from 119; ruddy i.e. a human being (an individual or the species, mankind, etc.):--X another, + hypocrite, + common sort, X low, man (mean, of low degree), person.]

e. [in his own] image [Strong: 6754 tselem tseh'-lem from an unused root meaning to shade; a phantom, i.e. (figuratively) illusion, resemblance; hence, a representative figure, especially an idol:--image, vain shew.] [Gesenius:  image images (of tumours, mice, heathen gods) image, likeness (of resemblance) mere, empty, image, semblance (fig.)]

f. [in the] image [Strong: 6754 tselem tseh'-lem from an unused root meaning to shade; a phantom, i.e. (figuratively) illusion, resemblance; hence, a representative figure, especially an idol:--image, vain shew.] [Gesenius:  image images (of tumours, mice, heathen gods) image, likeness (of resemblance) mere, empty, image, semblance (fig.)]

g. [of]  God [Strong: 430 'elohiym el-o-heem' plural of 433; gods in the ordinary sense; but specifically used (in the plural thus, especially with the article) of the supreme God; occasionally applied by way of deference to magistrates; and sometimes as a superlative:--angels, X exceeding, God (gods)(-dess, -ly), X (very) great, judges, X mighty.]

h. created [he] [Strong: 1254 bara' baw-raw' a primitive root; (absolutely) to create; (qualified) to cut down (a wood), select, feed (as formative processes):-- choose, create (creator), cut down, dispatch, do, make (fat).]
i. him [Strong: 853 'eth ayth apparent contracted from 226 in the demonstrative sense of entity; properly, self (but generally used to point out more definitely the object of a verb or preposition, even or namely):--(as such unrepresented in English).]

2. “…male and female created he them.”

a. male [Strong: 2145 zakar zaw-kawr' from 2142; properly, remembered, i.e.: a male (of man or animals, as being the most noteworthy sex):--X him, male, man(child, -kind).] [Gesenius:  male (of humans and animals)]

b. [and] female [Strong:5347 nqebah nek-ay-baw' from 5344; female (from the sexual form):--female.] [Gesenius: female woman, female child, female animal.]

1). Male and female were both created in the species of “man”. The Scriptures establishes that woman is the image of God just as much as the man.

a). Genesis 5:1, 2 This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;
5:2 Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.

 2). There are two passages giving information about Creation, but they do not conflict. The final authority in all this is Scripture itself.  Jesus quoted from both so called creation passages and considered them as one event, by saying “he that made them at the beginning”.

a). Matthew 19:4-6 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,
19:5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
19:6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
