And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.

1). In William Gesenius’s Hebrew-Chaldean Lexicon, it is listed as a “euphemism for sexual intercourse”. It is used this way in Genesis 4:1, “And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain,” Likewise in Genesis 4:17, “And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch…” Gesenius writes, “…verbs of knowing are frequently employed for this euphemism in other languages.” He then lists examples in Syrian, Arabic, Ethiopian, Greek, Latin, Italian, and French.
