The word of the LORD which came unto Zephaniah the son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hizkiah, in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah.

1). Norman Geisler, A Popular Survey of the Old Testament: Zephaniah wrote the book (Zephaniah 1:1). The son of Cushi, the great grandson of Hezekiah (Zephaniah 1:1). This could be Hezekiah the king. If so, Zephaniah is the only prophet of royal blood. The character and content of the book fit its claim to be the work of Zephaniah.
