2 Peter 1:8

For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

1. “For if these things be in you, and abound…”

a. For [Strong: 1063. gar gar a primary particle; properly, assigning a reason (used in argument, explanation or intensification; often with other particles):--and, as, because (that), but, even, for, indeed, no doubt, seeing, then, therefore, verily, what, why, yet.]

e. unfruitful [Strong: 175. akarpos ak'-ar-pos from 1 (as a negative particle) and 2590; barren (literally or figuratively):--without fruit, unfruitful.]

h. knowledge [Strong: 1922 epígnōsis, ep-ig'-no-sis; from G1921; recognition, i.e. (by implication) full discernment, acknowledgement:—(ac-)knowledge(-ing, - ment).] [Zodhiates: It is more intensive than gnosis, knowledge, because it expresses a more thorough participation in acquiring of knowledge on the part of the learner. In the NT, it often refers to knowledge which very powerfully influences the form of religious life, a knowledge laying claim to personal involvement.]

1). The knowledge mentioned in this verse is not just regular knowledge. It is a higher form of knowledge as the definition describes. It is revelation knowledge, knowledge imparted to our spirits by the Holy Spirit. There are two kinds of knowledge. There is natural knowledge, that is the knowledge we gain through the five physical senses. Then, there is revelation knowledge, knowledge gained only through a revelation of God’s Spirit to our human spirit. This is the knowledge that imparts faith and grace and everything we need in the New Covenant. It is not just having head knowledge about the Bible, head knowledge will not build faith and impart grace. Revelation knowledge is a deeper knowledge given to our spirits by the Holy Ghost.

l. Christ [Strong: 5547. Christos khris-tos' from 5548; anointed, i.e. the Messiah, an epithet of Jesus:--Christ.]
