Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the LORD of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones.

1). Christ Jesus cited this verse to his disciples as they were on their way to the Garden of Gethsemane. What is interesting about this Messianic citation by Christ is that it is similar to another citation where Jesus stopped the citation where the prophecy ended with the first advent of Christ (Luke 4:18, 19; Isaiah 61:1, 2). In the citation by Christ in Matthew 26:31, Christ again stopped citing the prophecy as it goes on and describes events in the days immediately before the return of Christ.
