Exodus 12:1

Exodus 12:1

And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying,

a. NLT: While the Israelites were still in the land of Egypt, the LORD gave the following instructions to Moses and Aaron:

b. NIV: The LORD said to Moses and Aaron in Egypt,

c. YLT: And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses and unto Aaron, in the land of Egypt, saying,

d. Amplified Bible Classic: The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt,

e. Septuagint: And the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying,

f. Stone Edition Torah/Prophets/Writings: HASHEM said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying,

1. And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying,

a. And the LORD [3068 * Yhovah] [Strong: from 1961; (the) self-Existent or Eternal; Jehovah, Jewish national name of God:--Jehovah, the Lord.]

b. spake [559 * 'amar] [Strong: a primitive root; to say (used with great latitude):--answer, appoint, avouch, bid, boast self, call, certify, challenge, charge, + (at the, give) command(-ment), commune, consider, declare, demand, X desire, determine, X expressly, X indeed, X intend, name, X plainly, promise, publish, report, require, say, speak (against, of), X still, X suppose, talk, tell, term, X that is, X think, use (speech), utter, X verily, X yet.]

1). Pulpit Commentary: According to the Biblical record, neither Moses nor Aaron introduced any legislation of their own, either at this time or later. The whole system, religious, political, and ecclesiastical, was received by Divine Revelation, commanded by God, and merely established by the agency of the two brothers.

c. unto Moses [4872 * Mosheh] [Strong: from 4871; drawing out (of the water), i.e. rescued; Mosheh, the Israelite lawgiver:--Moses.]

d. and Aaron [175 * 'Aharown] [Strong: of uncertain derivation; Aharon, the brother of Moses:--Aaron.]

e. in the land [776 * 'erets eh'-rets from an unused root probably meaning to be firm; the earth (at large, or partitively a land):--X common, country, earth, field, ground, land, X natins, way, + wilderness, world.]

f. of Egypt [4714 * Mitsrayim] [Strong: dual of 4693; Mitsrajim, i.e. Upper and Lower Egypt:--Egypt, Egyptians, Mizraim.]

1). Pulpit Commentary: The introduction of these words seems to show that we have here a separate document on the subject of the Passover, written independently of what has preceded, some time after the exodus, and placed here without alteration, when Moses gathered together his various writings into a single work.

g. saying [559 * 'amar] [Strong: a primitive root; to say (used with great latitude):--answer, appoint, avouch, bid, boast self, call, certify, challenge, charge, + (at the, give) command(-ment), commune, consider, declare, demand, X desire, determine, X expressly, X indeed, X intend, name, X plainly, promise, publish, report, require, say, speak (against, of), X still, X suppose, talk, tell, term, X that is, X think, use (speech), utter, X verily, X yet.]

1). The instruction regarding the Passover were given to Moses and Aaron.
