1. “Now the first day of the feast
of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus…”
a. Now [1161 * de] [Strong: a
primary particle (adversative or continuative); but, and, etc.:--also, and,
but, moreover, now (often unexpressed in English).]
b. the first [4413 * protos]
[Strong: contracted superlative of 4253; foremost (in time, place, order or
importance):--before, beginning, best, chief(-est), first (of all), former.]
c. of…unleavened bread [106 *
azumos] [Strong: from 1 (as a negative particle) and 2219; unleavened, i.e.
(figuratively) uncorrupted; (in the neutral plural) specially (by implication)
the Passover week:--unleavened (bread).]
1). The first day of was actually
the Passover. Accoring to some sources, Kevin Howard and Marvin Rosenthal, The
Feasts of the Lord, .”Often the two holidays are blurred together and
collectively referred to as “the eight days of Passover. In the days of the
Second Temple (in Jesus time), it was also common to call all eight days the
Feast of Unleavened Bread, (Luke 22:1, 7).
a). Mark 14:12 And the first day
of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover, his disciples said unto
him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare that thou mayest eat the passover?
b). Luke 22:7 Then came the day of
unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed.
2). David Stearn, Jewish new
Testament Commentary: Pesach [Passover]
is also know as the Feast of Matsah [Unleavened
Bread] because an essential elelment in it is eating only unleavened bread
throughout it seven days (Exodus 12:15-20). Furthermore, during that period, “no
chametz [“yeast, leaven”] must be
found in your houses” (Exodus 12:19). Traditionally, the day before the
Festival begins is the day when the last chemetz
must be removed form the house and burned, and from that moment on, the only
bread found in the house will be matzah.
Thus “the first day for matzah” is the day before the start of Pesach. Since according to the Jewish
calendar a day begins at sundown, what this means is that the chametz is burned around midmorning, and
the Pesach commences with the Seder
service after the sun has set.

of the other persons:--her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said,

to (sometimes adverbially, gladly); impersonally for the future tense, to be
