Exodus 14:22

And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.

1. “And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground…”

a. f. [upon the]  dry ground [Strong: 3004  yabbâshâh, yab-baw-shaw'; from H3001; dry ground:—dry (ground, land).]

2. “…and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.”

a. [and the] waters [Strong: 4325 mayim, mah'-yim; dual of a primitive noun (but used in a singular sense); water; figuratively, juice; by euphemism, urine, semen:— piss, wasting, water(-ing, (-course, -flood, -spring)).]

b. [were a] wall [unto them] [Strong: 2346 chôwmâh, kho-maw'; feminine active participle of an unused root apparently meaning to join; a wall of protection:—wall, walled.]

c. [on their] right hand [Strong: 3225 yâmîyn, yaw-meen'; from H3231; the right hand or side (leg, eye) of a person or other object (as the stronger and more dexterous); locally, the south:— left-handed, right (hand, side), south.]

d. [and on their] left [Strong: 8040 sᵉmôʼwl, sem-ole'; or שְׂמֹאל sᵉmôʼl; a primitive word (rather perhaps from the same as H8071 (by insertion of the aleph) through the idea of wrapping up); properly, dark (as enveloped), i.e. the north; hence (by orientation), the left hand:—left (hand, side).]

1). Verses throughout the Bible that speak of this event.

a). Psalm 33:7 He gathered up the waters of the sea together as a heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses.

b). Psalm 106:9 He rebuked the Red Sea also, and it was dried up: so he led them through the depths, as through the wilderness.

c). Isaiah 51:10 Art thou not it which hath dried the sea, the waters of the great deep; that hath made the depth of the sea a way for the ransomed to pass over?

2). They were literally walking through a corridor or hallway of water, standing upright. Another verse in the next chapter gives more information on this hallway. The water of the Red Sea become two walls of water that were either solid or gelled.

a). Exodus 15:8 And with the blast of thy nostrils the waters were gathered together, the floods stood upright as an heap, and the depths were congealed in the heart of the sea.

b). congealed [7087 * qapha] [Strong: to shrink, thicken, curdled milk,…frozen water, congeal.] [Gesenius: congelation]

c). congeal [Webster: to solidify or thicken by cooling or freezing, to thicken; coagulate; jell.]

3). This event was remembered 40 years later when Israel crossed the Jordan River and were about to conquer Jericho.

a). Joshua 2:9-10 And she said unto the men, I know that the Lord hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.
2:10 For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.
