Genesis 1:7

Genesis 1:7
And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
a. NLT: And that is what happened. God made this space to separate the waters of the earth from the waters of the heavens.
b. NIV: So God made the vault and separated the water under the vault from the water above it. And it was so.
c. YLT: And God maketh the expanse, and it separateth between the waters which are under the expanse, and the waters which are above the expanse: and it is so.

1. “And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament…”
a. d. [and] divided [Strong: 914 bâdal, baw-dal'; a primitive root; to divide (in variation senses literally or figuratively, separate, distinguish, differ, select, etc.):—(make, put) difference, divide (asunder), (make) separate (self, -ation), sever (out), × utterly.]

2. “...from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.”

e. and it was [Strong: 1961  hayah haw-yaw a primitive root (Compare 1933); to exist, i.e. be or become, come to pass (always emphatic, and not a mere copula or auxiliary):--beacon, X altogether, be(-come), accomplished, committed, like), break, cause, come (to pass), do, faint, fall, + follow, happen, X have, last, pertain, quit (one-)self, require, X use.]

f. so [Strong: 3651 kên, kane; from H3559; properly, set upright; hence (figuratively as adjective) just; but usually (as adverb or conjunction) rightly or so (in various applications to manner, time and relation; often with other particles):— after that (this, -ward, -wards), as... as, (for-) asmuch as yet, be (for which) cause, following, howbeit, in (the) like (manner, -wise), × the more, right, (even) so, state, straightway, such (thing), surely, there (where) -fore, this, thus, true, well, × you.]

1). This was the creation of the water canopy that was above the earth. This canopy of water was over the earth until the time of Noah’s flood when it helped cover the earth completely with water and ended all life on the earth except that which was in the Ark of Noah. This water was taken off the face of the earth that was put there by God at the judgment because of Lucifer’s rebellion. This is the flood that Peter was referring to in his second epistle.

a). 2 Peter 3:5, 6  For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
3:6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:

2). The other source of water provided for Noah’s flood came from the great reservoirs of water under the earth that were unleashed at the flood.

Genesis 7:11, 12 In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.
7:12  And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.
