Exodus 25:4

Exodus 25:4

And blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen, and goats' hair,

a. ASV: And blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen, and goats’ hair,

b. YLT: And blue, and purple, and scarlet, and linen, and goats' hair,

c. Amplified Bible Classic: Blue, purple, and scarlet [stuff] and fine twined linen and goats’ hair,

d. Septuagint: And blue, and purple, and double scarlet, and fine spun linen, and goats’ hair,

e. Stone Edition Torah/Prophets/Writings: And turquoise, purple, and scarlet wool, linen and goat hair;

1. “And blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen, and goats' hair,”

a. [And] blue [Strong: 8504 tᵉkêleth, tek-ay'-leth; probably for H7827; the cerulean mussel, i.e. the color (violet) obtained therefrom or stuff dyed therewith:—blue.]

b. [and] purple [Strong: 713 ʼargâmân, ar-gaw-mawn'; of foreign origin; purple (the color or the dyed stuff):—purple.]

c. [Strong: 8438 towla` to-law' and (feminine) towleoah {to-lay-aw'}; or towla ath {to-lah'-ath}; or tolaiath {to-lah'-ath}; from 3216; a maggot (as voracious); specifically (often with ellipsis of 8144) the crimson-grub, but used only (in this connection) of the color from it, and cloths dyed therewith:--crimson, scarlet, worm.]

d. [and] scarlet [ Strong: 8144 shânîy, shaw-nee'; of uncertain derivation; crimson, properly, the insect or its color, also stuff dyed with it:—crimson, scarlet (thread).]

e. [and] fine linen [Strong: 8336 shêsh, shaysh; or (for alliteration with H4897) שְׁשִׁי shᵉshîy; for H7893; bleached stuff, i.e. white linen or (by analogy) marble:—× blue, fine (twined) linen, marble, silk.]

f. [and] goats [hair] [Strong: 5795 ʻêz, aze; from H5810; a she-goat (as strong), but masculine in plural (which also is used elliptically for goat's hair):—(she) goat, kid.]

1). This whole passage of Exodus 25:1-9 is instructing the Israelites to collect and offering of materials to build the Tabernacle and everything in it.

a). Exodus 25:1-9 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring me an offering: of every man that giveth it willingly with his heart ye shall take my offering.
3 And this is the offering which ye shall take of them; gold, and silver, and brass,
4 And blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen, and goats' hair,
5 And rams' skins dyed red, and badgers' skins, and shittim wood,
6 Oil for the light, spices for anointing oil, and for sweet incense,
7 Onyx stones, and stones to be set in the ephod, and in the breastplate.
8 And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them.
9 According to all that I shew thee, after the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments thereof, even so shall ye make it.

2). There is no question that they received all this material from the Egyptians when they left. When the exodus was prophesied to Abraham, the LORD told him that the nation would leave with great substance. And it was also told to Moses.

a). Genesis 15:14.

b). Exodus 3:20-22

c). Exodus 12:33-36

3). The offering that they received from the Israelites included so much material that they kept giving that moses had to tell them to stop.

a). Exodus 36:1-7
