Exodus 23:30

Exodus 23:30

By little and little I will drive them out from before thee, until thou be increased, and inherit the land.

a. ASV: By little and little I will drive them out from before thee, until thou be increased, and inherit the land.

b. YLT: Little by little I cast them out from before thee, till thou art fruitful, and hast inherited the land.

c. Amplified Bible Classic: Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased and are numerous enough to take possession of the land.

d. Septuagint: By little [and little] I will cast them out from before thee, until thou shalt be increased and inherit the earth.

e. Stone Edition Torah/Prophets/Writings: Little by little shall I drive them away from you, until you become fruitful and make the Land your heritage

1. “By little and little I will drive them out from before thee…”

a. [By] little [Strong: 4592  mᵉʻaṭ, meh-at'; or מְעָט mᵉʻâṭ; from H4591; a little or few (often adverbial or comparative):—almost (some, very) few(-er, -est), lightly, little (while), (very) small (matter, thing), some, soon, × very.]

b. [and] little [Strong: 4592  mᵉʻaṭ, meh-at'; or מְעָט mᵉʻâṭ; from H4591; a little or few (often adverbial or comparative):—almost (some, very) few(-er, -est), lightly, little (while), (very) small (matter, thing), some, soon, × very.]

c. [I will] drive them out [Strong: 1644 gârash, gaw-rash'; a primitive root; to drive out from a possession; especially to expatriate or divorce:—cast up (out), divorced (woman), drive away (forth, out), expel, × surely put away, trouble, thrust out.

d. [from] before thee [Strong: 6440 pânîym, paw-neem'; plural (but always as singular) of an unused noun פָּנֶה pâneh; from H6437); the face (as the part that turns); used in a great variety of applications (literally and figuratively); also (with prepositional prefix) as a preposition (before, etc.):— accept, a-(be-) fore(-time), against, anger, × as (long as), at, battle, because (of), beseech, countenance, edge, employ, endure, enquire, face, favour, fear of, for, forefront(-part), form(-er time, -ward), from, front, heaviness, × him(-self), honourable, impudent, in, it, look(-eth) (-s), × me, meet, × more than, mouth, of, off, (of) old (time), × on, open, out of, over against, the partial, person, please, presence, prospect, was purposed, by reason of, regard, right forth, serve, × shewbread, sight, state, straight, street, × thee, × them(-selves), through ( -out), till, time(-s) past, (un-) to(-ward), upon, upside ( down), with(-in, -stand), × ye, × you.]

2. “...until thou be increased, and inherit the land.”

a. until [Strong: 5704 `ad ad properly, the same as 5703 (used as a preposition, adverb or conjunction; especially with a preposition); as far (or long, or much) as, whether of space (even unto) or time (during, while, until) or degree (equally with):--against, and, as, at, before, by (that), even (to), for(-asmuch as), (hither-)to, + how long, into, as long (much) as, (so) that, till, toward, until, when, while, (+ as) yet.]

b. [thou be] increased [Strong: 6509 pârâh, paw-raw'; a primitive root; to bear fruit (literally or figuratively):—bear, bring forth (fruit), (be, cause to be, make) fruitful, grow, increase.]

c. [and] inherit [Strong: 5157 nâchal, naw-khal'; a primitive root; to inherit (as a (figurative) mode of descent), or (generally) to occupy; causatively, to bequeath, or (generally) distribute, instate:—divide, have (inheritance), take as a heritage, (cause to, give to, make to) inherit, (distribute for, divide (for, for an, by), give for, have, leave for, take (for)) inheritance, (have in, cause to, be made to) possess(-ion).]

d. [the] land [Strong: 776 ʼerets, eh'-rets; from an unused root probably meaning to be firm; the earth (at large, or partitively a land):—× common, country, earth, field, ground, land, × natins, way, + wilderness, world.]

1). I see in this verse and the previous verse the principle of spiritual growth. A slow but upward progress.

a). Exodus 23:29, 30 I will not drive them out from before thee in one year; lest the land become desolate, and the beast of the field multiply against thee.
23:30 By little and little I will drive them out from before thee, until thou be increased, and inherit the land.

b). Ephesians 4:11-15 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
4:12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
4:13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
4:14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
4:15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

c). Mark 4:26-29  And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground;
4:27 And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how.
4:28 For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear.
4:29 But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.
