Exodus 17:10

So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.

1). I am persuaded that some kind of previous instruction had been given to Moses concerning holding up the rod of God, especially in light of the previous experiences, with the sorcerers (Exodus 17:10-12), to call up the plagues (Exodus 7:19, 20), to divide the Red Sea (Exodus 14: 15, 16, 21, 22).
