Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;

1. “Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair…”

a. Whose [Strong: 3739. hos hos, including feminine he hay, and neuter ho ho probably a primary word (or perhaps a form of the article 3588); the relatively (sometimes demonstrative) pronoun, who, which, what, that:--one, (an-, the) other, some, that, what, which, who(-m, -se), etc.]

b. adorning [Strong: 2889. kosmos kos'-mos probably from the base of 2865; orderly arrangement, i.e. decoration; by implication, the world (in a wide or narrow sense, including its inhabitants, literally or figuratively (morally)):--adorning, world.]

c. [let it] not [Strong: 3756. ou oo, also (before a vowel) ouk ook, and (before an aspirate) ouch ookh a primary word; the absolute negative (compare 3361) adverb; no or not:--+ long, nay, neither, never, no (X man), none, (can-)not, + nothing, + special, un(-worthy), when, + without, + yet but.]

a. and [Strong: 2532. kai kahee apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]

b. [of] wearing [Strong: 4025. perithesis per-ith'-es-is from 4060; a putting all around, i.e. decorating oneself with:--wearing.]

c. [of] gold [Strong: 5553. chrusion khroo-see'-on diminutive of 5557; a golden article, i.e. gold plating, ornament, or coin:--gold.]

d. or [Strong: 2228. e ay a primary particle of distinction between two connected terms; disjunctive, or; comparative, than:--and, but (either), (n-)either, except it be, (n-)or (else), rather, save, than, that, what, yea. Often used in connection with other particles.]

e. [of] putting on [Strong: 1745. endusis en'-doo-sis from 1746; investment with clothing:--putting on.

f. [of] apparel [Strong: 2440. himation him-at'-ee-on neuter of a presumed derivative of ennumi (to put on); a dress (inner or outer):--apparel, cloke, clothes, garment, raiment, robe, vesture.]

1). The focus should not be on the outside but the behavior that is coming from the inside, the behavior of the character of Christ we purposely yield to as we are empowered by the grace of God.
