2 Timothy 2:8

Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:

1. “Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David…”

a. Remember [Strong: 3421. mnemoneuo mnay-mon-yoo'-o from a derivative of 3420; to exercise memory, i.e. recollect; by implication, to punish; also to rehearse:--make mention; be mindful, remember.]

b. [that] Jesus [Strong: 2424. Iesous ee-ay-sooce' of Hebrew origin (3091); Jesus (i.e. Jehoshua), the name of our Lord and two (three) other Israelites:--Jesus.]

c. Christ [Strong: 5547. Christos khris-tos' from 5548; anointed, i.e. the Messiah, an epithet of Jesus:--Christ.]

1). The seed of David was a Messianic term referring to the prophesied Messiah of Israel, first mentioned in 2 Samuel. 

a). 2 Samuel 7:12-17 And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.

7:13 He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.

7:14 I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men:

7:15 But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee.

7:16 And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.

7:17 According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.

2). From then on the term seed or son of David referred to the Messiah.

a). Matthew 23:41, 42 While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,

23:42 Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The son of David.

b). Luke 1:30-33 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.

1:31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus.

1:32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:

1:33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

c). Romans 1:1-4 From Paul, a bond servant of Jesus Christ (the Messiah) called to be an apostle, (a special messenger) set apart to [preach] the Gospel (good news) of and from God,

1:2 Which He promised in advance [long ago] through His prophets in the sacred Scriptures—

1:3 [The Gospel] regarding His Son, Who as to the flesh (His human nature) was descended from David,

1:4 And [as to His divine nature] according to the Spirit of holiness was openly designated the Son of God in power [in a striking, triumphant and miraculous manner] by His resurrection from the dead, even Jesus Christ our Lord (the Messiah, the Anointed One).

2. “..was raised from the dead according to my gospel:”

a.
