Genesis 10:9

 

He was a mighty hunter before the LORD: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the LORD.

1. “He was a mighty hunter before the LORD…”

 

a. He was a mighty [Strong: 1368 gibbowr ghib-bore' or (shortened) gibbor {ghib-bore'}; intensive from the same as 1397; powerful; by implication, warrior, tyrant:-- champion, chief, X excel, giant, man, mighty (man, one), strong (man), valiant man.]

 

b. hunter [Strong: 6718 tsayid tsah'-yid; from a form of 6679 and meaning the same; the chase; also game (thus taken); (generally) lunch (especially for a journey):--X catcheth, food, X hunter, (that which he took in) hunting, venison, victuals.]

1). Cush had 6 sons: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, Sabtecha, and Nimrod.


a). Raamah [Cush’ son and Ham’s grandson] had two sons: Sheba and Dedan.

 

2). The intriguing thing about Nimrod is Scripture does not mention his children but rather it mentions the cities he built.

 

a). Nimrod built babel, Erech, Accad, and Calneh.

 

b). Out of Nimrod’s kingdom went Asshur[possibly Nimrod’s son or possibly Shem’s son: Genesis 10:22] and built Nineveh, Rehoboth, Calah and Resen.
