1. “Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran…”
a. [Now] these are [Strong: 428 'el-leh ale'-leh prolonged from 411; these or those:--an- (the) other; one sort, so, some, such, them, these (same), they, this, those, thus, which, who(-m).]
b. [the] generations [Strong: 8435 towldah to-led-aw' or toldah {to-led-aw'}; from 3205; (plural only) descent, i.e. family; (figuratively) history:--birth, generations.]
c. [of] Terah [Strong: 8646 Terach teh'-rakh of uncertain derivation; Terach, the father of Abraham; also a place in the Desert:--Tarah, Terah.]
d. Terah [Strong: 8646 Terach teh'-rakh of uncertain derivation; Terach, the father of Abraham; also a place in the Desert:--Tarah, Terah.]
e. begat [Strong: 3205 yalad yaw-lad' a primitive root; to bear young; causatively, to beget; medically, to act as midwife; specifically, to show lineage:--bear, beget, birth((-day)), born, (make to) bring forth (children, young), bring up, calve, child, come, be delivered (of a child), time of delivery, gender, hatch, labour, (do the office of a) midwife, declare pedigrees, be the son of, (woman in, woman that) travail(-eth, -ing woman).]
f. Abram [87 * ‘Abram] [Strong: contracted from 48; high father; Abram, the original name of Abraham:--Abram.]
g. Nahor [5152 * Nachowr] [Strong: from the same as 5170; snorer; Nochor, the name of the grandfather and a brother of Abraham:--Nahor.]
h. Haran [2039 * Haran] [Strong: perhaps from 2022; mountaineer; Haran, the name of two men:--Haran.]
1). Terah had three sons. The order given in this verse, Abram, Nahor, and Haran is not the birth order. Abram was actually born 60 years later. If we assume that Abram left right after Terah’s death at 205 years old and we subtract 75 from 205 we find that Abram was born when Terah was 130 years old not 70.
a). a). Genesis 11:32 And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.
b). Genesis 12:4 So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.
2). Whether Abram was the second born or third, there was 60 age difference between Haran and Abram. The Amplified lists Haran as the first born, this is no doubt correct.
2. “…and Haran begat Lot.”
a. Haran [2039 * Haran] [Strong: perhaps from 2022; mountaineer; Haran, the name of two men:--Haran.]
b. begat [3205 * yalad] [Strong: a primitive root; to bear young; causatively, to beget; medically, to act as midwife; specifically, to show lineage:--bear, beget, birth((-day)), born, (make to) bring forth (children, young), bring up, calve, child, come, be delivered (of a child), time of delivery, gender, hatch, labour, (do the office of a) midwife, declare pedigrees, be the son of, (woman in, woman that) travail(-eth, -ing woman).]
c. Lot [3876 * Lowt] [Strong: the same as 3875; Lot, Abraham's nephew:--Lot.]
1). In the next verse it reveals that Lot was one of three children, probably the firstborn; there were two other children listed in verse 29.
2 ). Genesis 11:29 And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.
