Isaiah 1:30

Isaiah 1:30

For ye shall be as an oak whose leaf fadeth, and as a garden that hath no water.

a. NLT: You will be like a great tree with withered leaves, like a garden without water.

b. NIV: You will be like an oak with fading leaves, like a garden without water.

c. YLT: For ye are as an oak whose leaf is fading, And as a garden that hath no water.

d. Amplified Bible: For you shall be like an oak or terebinth whose leaf withers, and like a garden that has no water.

e. Septuagint: For they shall be as a turpentine tree that has cast its leaves, and as a garden that has no water. 

f. Srone Edition Torah/Writings/Prophets: For you will be like an elm tree with withered leaves, and like a garden without water.

1. “For ye shall be as an oak whose leaf fadeth…”

a. for ye shall be as an oak [424 * ‘elah] [Strong: feminine of 352; an oak or other strong tree:--elm, oak, teil-tree.]

b. whose leaf [5929 * ‘aleh] [Strong: from 5927; a leaf (as coming up on a tree); collectively, foliage:--branch, leaf.]

c. fadeth [5034 * nabal] [Strong: a primitive root; to wilt; generally, to fall away, fail, faint; figuratively, to be foolish or (morally) wicked; causatively, to despise, disgrace:--disgrace, dishounour, lightly esteem, fade (away, - ing), fall (down, -ling, off), do foolishly, come to nought, X surely, make vile, wither.]

1). This is the exact opposite of what would happed to a man or woman who trusts in the LORD.

a). Jeremiah 17:7, 8 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.
17:8 For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

2. “…and as a garden that hath no water.”

a. and as a garden [1593 * gannah] [Strong: feminine of 1588; a garden:--garden.]

b. that hath no water [4325 * mayim] [Strong: dual of a primitive noun (but used in a singular sense); water; figuratively, juice; by euphemism, urine, semen:--+ piss, wasting, water(-ing, (-course, -flood, -spring)).]

1). Gardens that have no water will wither.

a). Luke 8:6 And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture.
