1. “But Sarai was barren; she had no child.”

a. Sarai [8297 * Saray] [Strong: from 8269; dominative; Sarai, the wife of Abraham:--Sarai.]

b. was barren [6135 * ‘aqar] [Strong: from 6131; sterile (as if extirpated in the generative organs):--(X male or female) barren (woman).]

c. she had no child [2056 * valad] [Strong: for 3206; a boy:--child.]

1). One writer said the reason it is stated here that Sarai was barren was to contrast her with Milcah, who probably had already began having children with Nahor before the move to Haran. But it is unclear if that is true. Years later after the birth of Isaac Scripture says that Abraham learned of his brother having children with Milcah. The way the English translation reads, Abraham was learning for the first time.

a). Genesis 22:20-24  And it came to pass after these things, that it was told Abraham, saying, Behold, Milcah, she hath also born children unto thy brother Nahor;
22:21 Huz his firstborn, and Buz his brother, and Kemuel the father of Aram,
22:22 And Chesed, and Hazo, and Pildash, and Jidlaph, and Bethuel.
22:23 And Bethuel begat Rebekah: these eight Milcah did bear to Nahor, Abraham's brother.
22:24 And his concubine, whose name was Reumah, she bare also Tebah, and Gaham, and Thahash, and Maachah.
