Isaiah 1:28

Isaiah 1:28

And the destruction of the transgressors and of the sinners shall be together, and they that forsake the LORD shall be consumed.

a. NLT: But rebels and sinners will be completely destroyed,
and those who desert the LORD will be consumed.

b. NIV: But rebels and sinners will both be broken, and those who forsake the LORD will perish.

c. YLT: And the destruction of transgressors and sinners is together, And those forsaking Jehovah are consumed.

d. Amplified Bible: But the crushing and destruction of rebels and sinners shall be together, and they who forsake the Lord shall be consumed.

e. Septuagint: And the transgressors and the sinners shall be crushed together, and they that forsake the Lord shall be utterly consumed.

f. Stone Edition Torah/Writings/Prophets: But calamity [awaits] rebels and sinners together, and those who forsake HASHEM will perish.

1. “And the destruction of the transgressors and of the sinners shall be together…”

a. and the destruction [7667 * sheber] [Strong: from 7665; a fracture, figuratively, ruin; specifically, a solution (of a dream):--affliction, breach, breaking, broken(-footed, -handed), bruise, crashing, destruction, hurt, interpretation, vexation.]

b. of the transgressors [6586 * pasha’] [Strong: a primitive root (identical with 6585 through the idea of expansion); to break away (from just authority), i.e. trespass, apostatize, quarrel:--offend, rebel, revolt, transgress(-ion, -or).]

c. and of the sinners [2400 * chatta’] [Strong: intensively from 2398; a criminal, or one accounted guilty:--offender, sinful, sinner.]

d. shall be together [3162 * yachad] [Strong: from 3161; properly, a unit, i.e. (adverb) unitedly:--alike, at all (once), both, likewise, only, (al-)together, withal.]

1). Dake: At the same time as the redemption of Judah.

2). Don Costello: Together, as all in one place, that is, the transgressors and sinners sall be punished in one place: the lake of fire.

a). Isaiah 66:22-24 For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the Lord, so shall your seed and your name remain.
66:23 And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the Lord.
66:24 And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.

b). Revelation 20:11-15    And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
20:13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

2. “…and they that forsake the LORD shall be consumed.”

a. and they that forsake [5800 * ‘azab] [Strong: a primitive root; to loosen, i.e. relinquish, permit, etc.:--commit self, fail, forsake, fortify, help, leave (destitute, off), refuse, X surely.]

1). This is referring to people who had once known the LORD, backsliders and those giving in to apostasy. This is consistent in both the Old and New Testaments.

a). Ezekiel 18:24 But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.

b). 2 Peter 2:20-22 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.
2:21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
2:22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

b. the LORD [3068 * Yhovah] [Strong: from 1961; (the) self-Existent or Eternal; Jehovah, Jewish national name of God:--Jehovah, the Lord.]

c. shall be consumed [3615 * kalah] [Strong: a primitive root; to end, whether intransitive (to cease, be finished, perish) or transitived (to complete, prepare, consume):--accomplish, cease, consume (away), determine, destroy (utterly), be (when ... were) done, (be an) end (of), expire, (cause to) fail, faint, finish, fulfil, X fully, X have, leave (off), long, bring to pass, wholly reap, make clean riddance, spend, quite take away, waste.]
