Isaiah 1:18

Isaiah 1:18

Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

a. NLT: “Come now, let’s settle this,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool.

b. NIV: “Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.

c. YLT: Come, I pray you, and we reason, saith Jehovah, If your sins are as scarlet, as snow they shall be white, If they are red as crimson, as wool they shall be!

d. Amplified Bible: Come now, and let us reason together, says the Lord. Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be like wool.

e. Septuagint: And come, let us reason together, saith the Lord: and though your sins be as purple, I will make them white as snow; and though they be as scarlet, I will make [them] white as wool.

1. “Come, now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD…”

c. saith [559 * ‘amar] [Strong: a primitive root; to say (used with great latitude):--answer, appoint, avouch, bid, boast self, call, certify, challenge, charge, + (at the, give) command(-ment), commune, consider, declare, demand, X desire, determine, X expressly, X indeed, X intend, name, X plainly, promise, publish, report, require, say, speak (against, of), X still, X suppose, talk, tell, term, X that is, X think, use (speech), utter, X verily, X yet.]

d. the LORD [3068 * Yhovah] [Strong: from 1961; (the) self-Existent or Eternal; Jehovah, Jewish national name of God:--Jehovah, the Lord.]

2. “…though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow…”
a. though your sins [2399 * chet’] [Strong: from 2398; a crime or its penalty:--fault, X grievously, offence, (punishment of) sin.]

b. be as scarlet [8144 * shaniy] [Strong:  of uncertain derivation; crimson, properly, the insect or its color, also stuff dyed with it:--crimson, scarlet (thread).]

c. they shall be as white [3835 * laban] [Strong: a primitive root; to be (or become) white; also (as denominative from 3843) to make bricks:--make brick, be (made, make) white(-r).]

d. as snow [7950 * sheleg] [Strong: from 7949; snow (probably from its whiteness):--snow(-y).]

3. “…though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”

a. though they be red [119 * ‘adam] [Strong: to show blood (in the face), i.e. flush or turn rosy:--be (dyed, made) red (ruddy).]

b. like crimson [8438 * towla] [Strong: from 3216; a maggot (as voracious); specifically (often with ellipsis of 8144) the crimson-grub, but used only (in this connection) of the color from it, and cloths dyed therewith:--crimson, scarlet, worm.]

c. they shall be as wool [6785 * tsemer] [Strong: from an unused root probably meaning to be shaggy; wool:--wool(-len).]
