When they saw the star, they
rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
a. NLT: When they saw the star, they
were filled with joy!

having seen the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy,
d. Amplified Bible: When they saw the
star, they were thrilled with ecstatic joy.

1. “When they saw the star…”
a. when [1161 * de] [Strong: a primary
particle (adversative or continuative); but, and, etc.:--also, and, but,
moreover, now (often unexpressed in English).]
b. they saw [1492 * eido] [Strong: a
primary verb; used only in certain past tenses, the others being borrowed from
the equivalent 3700 and 3708; properly, to see (literally or figuratively); by
implication, (in the perfect tense only) to know:--be aware, behold, X can (+
not tell), consider, (have) know(-ledge), look (on), perceive, see, be sure,
tell, understand, wish, wot.]
c. the star [792 * aster] [Strong: probably
from the base of 4766; a star (as strown over the sky), literally or

2. “…they rejoiced with exceeding
great joy.”
a. rejoiced [5463 * chairo] [Strong: a
primary verb; to be "cheer"ful, i.e. calmly happy or well-off;
impersonally, especially as salutation (on meeting or parting), be
well:--farewell, be glad, God speed, greeting, hail, joy(- fully), rejoice.]
b. exceeding [4970 * sphodra] [Strong:
neuter plural of sphodros (violent; of uncertain derivation) as adverb;
vehemently, i.e. in a high degree, much:-- exceeding(-ly), greatly, sore, very.]
