Matthew 2:14

When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:

a. NLT: That night Joseph left for Egypt with the child and Mary, his mother,

b. NIV:  So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt,

c. Young’s Literal Translation: And he, having risen, took the child and his mother by night, and withdrew to Egypt,

d. Amplified Bible: And having risen, he took the Child and His mother by night and withdrew to Egypt

e. Worrell Translation: And, rising, he took the Child and His mother by night, and departed into Egypt,

1. “When he arose…”

a. when [1161 * de] [Strong: a primary particle (adversative or continuative); but, and, etc.:--also, and, but, moreover, now (often unexpressed in English).]

b. arose [1453 * egeiro] [Strong: probably akin to the base of 58 (through the idea of collecting one's faculties); to waken (transitively or intransitively), i.e. rouse (literally, from sleep, from sitting or lying, from disease, from death; or figuratively, from obscurity, inactivity, ruins, nonexistence):--awake, lift (up), raise (again, up), rear up, (a-)rise (again, up), stand, take up.]

1). Joseph probably received his dream the same night as the Magi, and they both left Bethlehem in the middle of the night, on the same night..

2. “…he took the young child and his mother by night…”

a. he took [3880 * paralambano] [Strong: from 3844 and 2983; to receive near, i.e. associate with oneself (in any familiar or intimate act or relation); by analogy, to assume an office; figuratively, to learn:--receive, take (unto, with).]

b. young child [3813 * paidion] [Strong: neuter diminutive of 3816; a childling (of either sex), i.e. (properly), an infant, or (by extension) a half-grown boy or girl; figuratively, an immature Christian:--(little, young) child, damsel.]
