Genesis 40:1

And it came to pass after these things, that the butler of the king of Egypt and his baker had offended their lord the king of Egypt.

1. “And it came to pass after these things…”

a. 1). Joseph was around 17 when he was taken into slavery into Egypt. Genesis 37:1-36. Since Joseph was born before Jacob left Haran,  Jacob had been back in Caanan less than 17 years before Joseph was sold into slavery. 

a). Genesis 37:2 These are the generations of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brethren; and the lad was with the sons of Bilhah, and with the sons of Zilpah, his father's wives: and Joseph brought unto his father their evil report.

2). When he was promoted to Prime Minister of Egypt, he was thirty.

a). Genesis 41:46 And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.

3). Joseph spent a total of 13 years in prison. Some of those years were in Potiphar’s house and some in actual prison. Of all the events that happened to Joseph during those years, the only event recorded is the interpreting of the dreams of two of Pharoah’s officers.

2. “...that the butler of the king of Egypt and his baker had offended their lord the king of Egypt.”
