And Pharaoh was wroth against two of his officers, against the chief of the butlers, and against the chief of the bakers.

1. “And Pharaoh was wroth against two of his officers…”

a. [And] Pharaoh [Strong: 6547 Par`oh par-o' of Egyptian derivation; Paroh, a general title of Egyptian kings:--Pharaoh.]

1). The Genesis Record, Henry M. Morris: It is said that both of these men were “officers”, but again the Hebrew word used is the one for “eunuchs”. Some writers have suggested that this word may have come to be synonymous with any  official…but this suggestion is not based on any direct evidence. 

2). 1). Joseph was around 17 when he was taken into slavery into Egypt. Genesis 37:1-36. Since Joseph was born before Jacob left Haran,  Jacob had been back in Caanan less than 17 years before Joseph was sold into slavery. 

a). Genesis 37:2 These are the generations of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brethren; and the lad was with the sons of Bilhah, and with the sons of Zilpah, his father's wives: and Joseph brought unto his father their evil report.

3). When he was promoted to Prime Minister of Egypt, he was thirty.

a). Genesis 41:46 And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.

4). Joseph spent a total of 13 years in prison. Some of those years were in Potiphar’s house and some in actual prison. Of all the events that happened to Joseph during those years, the only event recorded is the interpreting of the dreams of two of Pharoah’s officers.

2. “...against the chief of the butlers, and against the chief of the bakers.”

c. [of the] butlers [Strong: 4945 mashqeh mash-keh' from 8248; properly, causing to drink, i.e. a butler; by implication (intransitively), drink (itself); figuratively, a well-watered region:--butler(-ship), cupbearer, drink(-ing), fat pasture, watered.]

d. [and] against [Strong: 5921 `al al properly, the same as 5920 used as a preposition (in the singular or plural often with prefix, or as conjunction with a particle following); above, over, upon, or against (yet always in this last relation with a downward aspect) in a great variety of applications (as follow):--above, according to(-ly), after, (as) against, among, and, X as, at, because of, beside (the rest of), between, beyond the time, X both and, by (reason of), X had the charge of, concerning for, in (that), (forth, out) of, (from) (off), (up-)on, over, than, through(-out), to, touching, X with.]
