Now Jericho was straitly shut up
because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in.

1). The complete shutting up of Jericho only occurred after the powerful
demonstration of the power of God stopping the flow of the Jordan River for 25
or more miles. During the year or so that Israel was encamped at Shittim,
people were allowed to leave and enter the city during daylight hours (Joshua
2:5).
