was naked in his house.
f. Stone Edition Torah/Prophets/Writings: He drank of the wine and became
drunk, and he uncovered himself within his tent.
1. “And he drank of
the wine, and was drunken…”
a. And he drank [Strong: 8354 shathah shaw-thaw' a primitive root; to
imbibe (literally or figuratively):--X assuredly, banquet, X certainly,
drink(-er, -ing), drunk (X -ard), surely.]
b. of [Strong: 4480 min min or minniy {min-nee'}; or minney (constructive
plural) {min-nay'}; (Isaiah 30:11); for 4482; properly, a part of; hence
(prepositionally), from or out of in many senses (as follows):--above, after,
among, at, because of, by (reason of), from (among), in, X neither, X nor,
(out) of, over, since, X then, through, X whether, with.]
c. the wine [Strong: 3196 yayin yah'-yin from an unused root meaning to
effervesce; wine (as fermented); by implication, intoxication:--banqueting,
wine, wine(-bibber).]
d. and was drunken [Strong: 7937 shakar shaw-kar' a primitive root; to
become tipsy; in a qualified sense, to satiate with a stimulating drink or
(figuratively) influence:--(be filled with) drink (abundantly), (be, make)
drunk(-en), be merry.]
1). Noah got drunk and he experienced one of the many negative
experiences of getting drunk. Alcohol lowers the inhibition, it removes them
and allows a person to do things they would not have done if they were not
drunk.
a). Proverbs 23:29-35 Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath
contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness
of eyes?
23:30 They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.
23:31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his
colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.
23:32 At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.
23:33 Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter
perverse things.
23:34 Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea,
or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.
23:35 They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they
have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet
again.
2. “…and he was
uncovered within his tent.”
a. and he was uncovered [Strong: 1540 w-law' a primitive root; to denude
(especially in a disgraceful sense); by implication, to exile (captives being
usually stripped); figuratively, to reveal:--+ advertise, appear, bewray,
bring, (carry, lead, go) captive (into captivity), depart, disclose, discover,
exile, be gone, open, X plainly, publish, remove, reveal, X shamelessly, shew,
X surely, tell, uncover.]
b. within [Strong: 8432 tavek taw'-vek from an unused root meaning to
sever; a bisection, i.e. (by implication) the centre:--among(-st), X between,
half, X (there- ,where-), in(-to), middle, mid(-night), midst (among), X out
(of), X through, X with(-in).]
c. his tent [Strong: 168 'ohel o'-hel from 166; a tent (as clearly
conspicuous from a distance):--covering, (dwelling)(place), home, tabernacle,
tent.]
1). It does not say how Noah became uncovered. Personally I lean toward
either Ham or Canaan did something to Noah while he was drunkenly unconscious.
Some scholars believe that something sexual occurred while Noah was drunk. It does seem to imply that something was done to Noah while unconscious (Genesis 9:24). The
phrase “uncover the nakedness” is a euphemism for sexual intercourse. It is
used in Leviticus 18:6-19. It is also found in Ezekiel.
a). Ezekiel 16:36, 37 Thus saith
the Lord God; Because thy filthiness was poured out, and thy nakedness discovered
through thy whoredoms with thy lovers, and with all the idols of thy
abominations, and by the blood of thy children, which thou didst give unto
them;
16:37 Behold, therefore I will gather all thy lovers, with whom thou hast
taken pleasure, and all them that thou hast loved, with all them that thou hast
hated; I will even gather them round about against thee, and will discover thy
nakedness unto them, that they may see all thy nakedness.
b). Ezekiel 23:10 These discovered her nakedness: they took her sons and
her daughters, and slew her with the sword: and she became famous among women;
for they had executed judgment upon her.
