1. “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart…”
a. Trust [Strong: 982 batach baw-takh' a primitive root; properly, to hie
for refuge (but not so precipitately as 2620); figuratively, to trust, be
confident or sure:--be bold (confident, secure, sure), careless (one, woman),
put confidence, (make to) hope, (put, make to) trust.]
b. in [Strong: 413 'el ale (but only used in the shortened constructive
form sel {el}); a primitive particle; properly, denoting motion towards, but
occasionally used of a quiescent position, i.e. near, with or among; often in
general, to:--about, according to ,after, against, among, as for, at,
because(-fore, -side), both...and, by, concerning, for, from, X hath, in(- to),
near, (out) of, over, through, to(-ward), under, unto, upon, whether,
with(-in).]
c. the LORD [Strong: 3068 Yhovah yeh-ho-vaw' from 1961; (the)
self-Existent or Eternal; Jehovah, Jewish national name of God:--Jehovah, the
Lord.]
d. with all [Strong: 3605 kol kole or (Jer. 33:8) kowl {kole}; from 3634;
properly, the whole; hence, all, any or every (in the singular only, but often
in a plural sense):--(in) all (manner, (ye)), altogether, any (manner), enough,
every (one, place, thing), howsoever, as many as, (no-)thing, ought, whatsoever,
(the) whole, whoso(-ever).]
e. your heart [Strong: 3820 leb labe a form of 3824; the heart; also used
(figuratively) very widely for the feelings, the will and even the intellect;
likewise for the centre of anything:--+ care for, comfortably, consent, X
considered, courag(-eous), friend(-ly), ((broken-), (hard-), (merry-),
(stiff-), (stout-), double) heart((-ed)), X heed, X I, kindly, midst,
mind(-ed), X regard((-ed)), X themselves, X unawares, understanding, X well,
willingly, wisdom.]
1).
Trust in the LORD and in His word, what it says, instead of leaning on our own
thoughts and ideas.
2. “…and lean not unto thine own
understanding.”
a. and lean [Strong: 8172 sha`an shaw-an' a primitive root; to support
one's self:--lean, lie, rely, rest (on, self), stay.]
b. not [Strong: 408 'al al a negative particle (akin to 3808); not (the
qualified negation, used as a deprecative); once (Job 24:25) as a noun,
nothing:--nay, neither, + never, no ,nor, not, nothing (worth), rather than.]
c. on your own understanding [Strong: 998 biynah bee-naw' from 995;
understanding:--knowledge, meaning, X perfectly, understanding, wisdom.]
1).
God’s ways are not our ways, His thoughts are not our thoughts. We need to
trust in what He says in His word and not trust on our own thoughts. Think his
thoughts.
a). Isaiah 55:7-11 Let the wicked
forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto
the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will
abundantly pardon.
55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my
ways, saith the Lord.
55:9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher
than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
55:10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and
returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and
bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not
return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall
prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
b). 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war
after the flesh:
10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through
God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself
against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the
obedience of Christ;
c). Romans 8:5-8 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of
the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
8:6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually
minded is life and peace.
8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not
subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
8:8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
d). Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth;
but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do
according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way
prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
