Genesis 9:24



Genesis 9:24

And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him.

a. NLT: When Noah woke up from his stupor, he learned what Ham, his youngest son, had done.

b. NIV: When Noah awoke from his wine and found out what his youngest son had done to him,

c. YLT: And Noah awaketh from his wine, and knoweth that which his young son hath done to him,

1. “And Noah awoke from his wine…”

a. And Noah [Strong: 5146 Noach no'-akh the same as 5118; rest; Noach, the patriarch of the flood:--Noah.]

b. awoke [Strong: 3364 yaqats yaw-kats' a primitive root; to awake (intransitive):--(be) awake(-d).]

c. from his wine [Strong: 3196 yayin yah'-yin from an unused root meaning to effervesce; wine (as fermented); by implication, intoxication:--banqueting, wine, wine(-bibber).]

1). One of the experiences that someone drunk experiences is passing out from the alcohol.

a). Proverbs 23:34, 35 Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.
23:35 They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.

2. “…and knew what his younger son had done unto him.”

1). We don’t know exactly what happened between Noah and Ham or Canaan but we know for sure it would not have happened if Noah was sober.
