Romans 2:13
(For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the
doers of the law shall be justified.
a. NLT: For merely listening to
the law doesn’t make us right with God. It is obeying the law that makes us
right in his sight.
b. NIV: For it is not those who
hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law
who will be declared righteous.
c. YLT: for not the hearers of the
law are righteous before God, but the doers of the law shall be declared

d. Amplified Bible Classic: For it
is not merely hearing the Law [read] that makes one righteous before God, but
it is the doers of the Law who will be held guiltless and acquitted and

1. “(For not the hearers of the law are just before God…”

1). Those who hear only and do not
do, are not obedient are deceived, not by the devil but by ther own selves.
a). James 1:22-25 But be ye doers
of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
1:23 For if any be a hearer of the
word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a
glass:
1:24 For he beholdeth himself, and
goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
1:25 But whoso looketh into the
perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful
hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
2). Jesus said that those who hear
only but do not obey are setting themselves up for a fall.
a). Matthew 7:21-27 Not
every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of
heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
7:22 Many will say to me in that
day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast
out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
7:23 And then will I profess unto
them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth
these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which
built his house upon a rock:
7:25 And the rain descended, and
the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not:
for it was founded upon a rock.
7:26 And every one that heareth
these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man,
which built his house upon the sand:
7:27 And the rain descended, and
the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and
great was the fall of it.
