Ephesians 3:18

Ephesians 3:18

May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;

a. NLT: And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.

b. NIV: May have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ,

c. YLT: That ye may be in strength to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height,

d. Amplified Bible Classic: That you may have the power and be strong to apprehend and grasp with all the saints [God’s devoted people, the experience of that love] what is the breadth and length and height and depth [of it];

1. “May be able to comprehend with all saints…”

a. May be able [Strong: 1840 exischuo ex-is-khoo'-o from 1537 and 2480; to have full strength, i.e. be entirely competent:--be able.]

b. to comprehend [Strong: 2638 katalambano kat-al-am-ban'-o from 2596 and 2983; to take eagerly, i.e. seize, possess, etc. (literally or figuratively):--apprehend, attain, come upon, comprehend, find, obtain, perceive, (over-)take.]

c. with [Strong: 4862 sun soon a primary preposition denoting union; with or together (but much closer than 3326 or 3844), i.e. by association, companionship, process, resemblance, possession, instrumentality, addition, etc.:--beside, with. In composition it has similar applications, including completeness.]

d. all [Strong: 3956 pas pas including all the forms of declension; apparently a primary word; all, any, every, the whole:--all (manner of, means), alway(-s), any (one), X daily, + ever, every (one, way), as many as, + no(-thing), X thoroughly, whatsoever, whole, whosoever.]

e. saints [Strong: 40 hagios hag'-ee-os from hagos (an awful thing) (compare 53, 2282); sacred (physically, pure, morally blameless or religious, ceremonially, consecrated):--(most) holy (one, thing), saint.]

2. “…what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;”

a. what [Strong: 5101  tis tis probably emphatic of 5100; an interrogative pronoun, who, which or what (in direct or indirect questions):--every man, how (much), + no(-ne, thing), what (manner, thing), where (-by, -fore, -of, -unto, - with, -withal), whether, which, who(-m, -se), why.]

b. [is] the [Strong: 3588 ho ho, including the feminine he hay, and the neuter to to in all their inflections; the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom):--the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc.]

c. breadth [Strong: 4114 platos plat'-os from 4116; width:--breadth.]

d. and [Strong: 2532 kai kahee apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]

e. length [Strong: 3372 mekos may'-kos probably akin to 3173; length (literally or figuratively) length.]

f. and [Strong: 2532 kai kahee apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]

g. depth [Srong: 899 bathos bath'-os from the same as 901; profundity, i.e. (by implication) extent; (figuratively) mystery:--deep(-ness, things), depth.]

h. and [Strong: 2532 kai kahee apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]

i. heighth [Strong: 5311 hupsos hoop'-sos from a derivative of 5228; elevation, i.e. (abstractly) altitude, (specially), the sky, or (figuratively) dignity:--be exalted, height, (on) high.]
