Ephesians 5:10

Ephesians 5:10

Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.

a. YLT: Proving what is well-pleasing to the Lord,

b. Darby Translation: Proving what is agreeable to the Lord;

c. ASV: Proving what is well-pleasing unto the Lord;

d. RSV: And try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.

1. “Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.”

a. Proving [Strong: 1381: dokimazo dok-im-ad'-zo from 1384; to test (literally or figuratively); by implication, to approve:--allow, discern, examine, X like, (ap-)prove, try.]

b. what [Strong: 5101 tis tis probably emphatic of 5100; an interrogative pronoun, who, which or what (in direct or indirect questions):--every man, how (much), + no(-ne, thing), what (manner, thing), where (-by, -fore, -of, -unto, - with, -withal), whether, which, who(-m, -se), why.]

c. is [Strong: 2076 esti es-tee' third person singular present indicative of 1510; he (she or it) is; also (with neuter plural) they are:--are, be(-long), call, X can(-not), come, consisteth, X dure for a while, + follow, X have, (that) is (to say), make, meaneth, X must needs, + profit, + remaineth, + wrestle.]

d. acceptable [Strong: 2101 euarestos yoo-ar'-es-tos from 2095 and 701; fully agreeable:--acceptable(-ted), wellpleasing.]

e. unto the [Strong: 3588 * ho ho, including the feminine he hay, and the neuter to to in all their inflections; article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom):--the, this, that, one, he, she, it, the definite etc.]

f. Lord [Strong: 2962 kurios koo'-ree-os from kuros (supremacy); supreme in authority, i.e. (as noun) controller; by implication, Master (as a respectful title):-- God, Lord, master, Sir.]

1). Putting on or walking in the fruit of the Spirit requires us to present our bodies as sacrifices to the Lord. It is just presenting the spiritual discipline from a different perspective, as the RSV says, “try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.

a). Romans 12:1, 2 I beseech you therefore brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
