Ephesians 4:12
For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
a. NLT: Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ.

1. “For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry…”
a. For [Strong: 4314 pros pros a strengthened form of 4253; a preposition of direction; forward to, i.e. toward (with the genitive case, the side of, i.e. pertaining to; with the dative case, by the side of, i.e. near to; usually with the accusative case, the place, time, occasion, or respect, which is the destination of the relation, i.e. whither or for which it is predicated):--about, according to , against, among, at, because of, before, between, (where-)by, for, X at thy house, in, for intent, nigh unto, of, which pertain to, that, to (the end that), X together, to (you) -ward, unto, with(-in). 2. “…for the edifying of the body of Christ:”

1). The responsibility of the five ministry gifts that Christ gave the church, were for the perfecting of the saints for their (the saints) work in the ministry, and to build up or edify the body of Christ. Now they were to continue their responsibility until a certain time, that time is pin pointed in the following verse.
a). Ephesians 4:13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
b). This reveals that all five ministry gifts were to continue until we reached this level of growth. This clearly shows that the offices of apostle and prophet were to continue along with the other three until that time.
