Ephesians 5:8

Ephesians 5:8

For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light.

a. NLT: For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light!

b. NIV: For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.

c. YLT: For ye were once darkness, and now light in the Lord; as children of light walk ye,

1. “For ye were sometimes darkness…”

a. For [Strong: 1063 gar gar a primary particle; properly, assigning a reason (used in argument, explanation or intensification; often with other particles):--and, as, because (that), but, even, for, indeed, no doubt, seeing, then, therefore, verily, what, why, yet.]

b. ye were [Strong: 2258 en ane imperfect of 1510; I (thou, etc.) was (wast or were):--+ agree, be, X have (+ charge of), hold, use, was(-t), were.]

c. sometime [Strong: 4218 pote pot-eh' from the base of 4225 and 5037; indefinite adverb, at some time, ever:--afore-(any, some-)time(-s), at length (the last), (+ n- )ever, in the old time, in time past, once, when.]

d. darkness [Strong: 4655 skotos skot'-os from the base of 4639; shadiness, i.e. obscurity (literally or figuratively):--darkness.]

1). This is a verse that describes us before we were born again and after we were born again.

a). Ephesians 2:2, 3 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
2:3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

b). 1 Peter 1:14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:

2. “…but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light.”

f. walk [Strong: 4043 peripateo per-ee-pat-eh'-o from 4012 and 3961; to tread all around, i.e. walk at large (especially as proof of ability); figuratively, to live, deport oneself, follow (as a companion or votary):--go, be occupied with, walk (about).]

g. as [Strong: 5613 hos hoce probably adverb of comparative from 3739; which how, i.e. in that manner (very variously used, as follows):--about, after (that), (according) as (it had been, it were), as soon (as), even as (like), for, how (greatly), like (as, unto), since, so (that), that, to wit, unto, when(-soever), while, X with all speed.]

h. children [Strong: 5043 teknon tek'-non from the base of 5098; a child (as produced):--child, daughter, son.]
