Genesis 41:33, 34
Now
therefore let Pharaoh look out a man discreet and wise, and set him over the
land of Egypt.
Let
Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, and take up the
fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven plenteous years.
a. Henry M. Morris: It has been shown by
historians that tithing was practiced in ancient Egypt and other nations, as a
form of taxes or tribute to the king.
b. Henry M.Morris: It is remarkable that the
20 percent of the produce during the seven good years of plenty sufficed to
meet all needs, not only for the Egyptians but also for the delegations from
other lands, during the seven years of famine…a remarkable testimony to both
the overwhelming abundance which God had provided during the first seven years
and also to the exceptional efficiency of Joseph’s management during the seven
years of famine.
