Isaiah 40:28

Isaiah 40:28

Hast thou not known? Hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, faineth not, neither is weary? There is no searching of his understanding.

a. ASV: Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard? The everlasting God, Jehovah, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary; there is no searching of his understanding.

b. YLT: Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard? The God of the age -- Jehovah, Preparer of the ends of the earth, Is not wearied nor fatigued, There is no searching of His understanding.

c. Classic Amplified: Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, does not faint or grow weary; there is no searching of His understanding.

d. Septuagint: And now, hast thou not known? hast thou not heard? the eternal God, the God that formed the ends of the earth, shall not hunger, nor be weary, and there is no searching of his understanding.

e. Stone Edition Torah/Prophets/ Writings: Did you not know? Did you not hear? HASHEM is the eternal God, the Creator of the ends of the earth; He does not weary, He does not tire; there is no calculating His understanding.

1. “Hast thou not known? Hast thou not heard…”

a. 2. “…that the everlasting God…”

c. God [Strong: 430 ʼĕlôhîym, el-o-heem'; plural of H433; gods in the ordinary sense; but specifically used (in the plural thus, especially with the article) of the supreme God; occasionally applied by way of deference to magistrates; and sometimes as a superlative:—angels, × exceeding, God (gods) (-dess, -ly), × (very) great, judges, × mighty.]

90:2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.

2. “…the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth, not neither is weary?”

b. [the] Creator [Strong: 1254 bârâʼ, baw-raw'; a primitive root; (absolutely) to create; (qualified) to cut down (a wood), select, feed (as formative processes):—choose, create (creator), cut down, dispatch, do, make (fat).

c. [of the] ends [Strong: 7098 qâtsâh, kaw-tsaw'; feminine of H7097; (used like H7097) a termination:—coast, corner, (selv-) edge, lowest, (uttermost) participle.]

d. [of the] earth [Strong: 776 ʼerets, eh'-rets; from an unused root probably meaning to be firm; the earth (at large, or partitively a land):—× common, country, earth, field, ground, land, × natins, way, + wilderness, world.]

e. fainteth [Strong: 3286 yâʻaph, yaw-af'; a primitive root; to tire (as if from wearisome flight):—faint, cause to fly, (be) weary (self).]

h. [is] weary [Strong: 3021 yâgaʻ, yaw-gah'; a primitive root; properly, to gasp; hence, to be exhausted, to tire, to toil:—faint, (make to) labour, (be) weary.]

1). Interesting that being not “faint” nor “weary” is mentioned after addressing him as Creator. When he rested on the seventh day it was not because he was tired.

4. “...There is no searching of his understanding.”

a. [There is] no searching [Strong: 2714  chêqer, khay'-ker; from H2713; examination, enumeration, deliberation:—finding out, number, (un-) search(-able, -ed, out, -ing).]

b. [of his] understanding [Strong: 8394 tâbûwn, taw-boon'; and (feminine) תְּבוּנָה tᵉbûwnâh; or תּוֹבֻנָה tôwbunâh; from H995; intelligence; by implication, an argument; by extension, caprice:—discretion, reason, skilfulness, understanding, wisdom.]
