And Joshua said, Hereby ye shall
know that the living God is among you, and that he will without fail drive out
from before you the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Hivites, and the
Perizzites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Jebusites.
a. NLT: Today you will know that the living God is
among you. He will surely drive out the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites,
Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites, and Jebusites ahead of you.
b. NIV: This is how you will know that the living
God is among you and that he will certainly drive out before you the
Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites and Jebusites.

properly, the nearest part, i.e. the center, whether literal, figurative or

1). Aside from the fact that you can see Him in a
pillar of fire by night and a pillar of cloud by day, beside the fact that He
feeds you every day with manna that falls from the sky, beside the fact that He
provides you water from a rock that follows you through the desert, besides all
that, this is how you will know that the living God is among you. Joshua told
the nation of Israel that what God was going to do among them was the proof
that God was going to be faithful to His word.
2. “…and that he will without fail drive out from
before you…”

1). Though the spies came back with a good report
and did not repeat the horrible mistake of unbelief, God was making sure that Israel
would know without a shadow of doubt that He was with them and he would drive
out the inhabitants of the land for them.
